I have respect for Byrd, the guy was quite undersized for a heavyweight in this day and age but he made it work for him, his defense when he was at his best was very good, very slick. That said though, he did have some controversial decisions go his way like the ones with Oquendo and Golota.
Byrd was a beast. He doesnt get much recognition cause he couldnt put guys out cold. But he was slick and fast at a weight that wasnt his natural state.
yes he looked lethargic
it would have been the loss in weight more than the age though imo, look what happend to jones wen he lost the same amount of weight, it cant be gd for you at all
HE DID GO DOWN TO LHW, and he lost to journeyman Shaun George

yeh but to be fair tht was old man byrd
yeh thats true and like i said previously he was beat by Calzaghe as an amatuer so maybe he does ave trouble with speed. At heavy though he sure was slicker than oil at times. I would say at CW he wouldnt have done too badly but lets face it who really cares about CW lol
Do u say this because you think then he wudnt have had the major speed advantage tht he did at heavy?
yeah at LHW, he would be fighting guys much faster and more skilled. looked wut happened when he fought shaun george, even though byrd was past his prime, george kicked his ass worse than VK did...
for speed and skill he was at the top.... but that wasnt enought to beat the elite guys... i think byrd had more success as heavy than he would have had if he lost weight and fought as CW or LHW.

can u elaborate on this please?
He had good speed and technical ability which allowed him to beat slow/shot fighters, he had very little power and got his ass kicked when he stepped in the ring with good bigger and stronger fighters.
For Speed and Skills for a Heavy he has to be somewhere near the top dont you think? or am I blowing him way out of proportion?

byrd could beat most heavyweights cuz he was WAAAY faster and more skilled... but when he stepped up to the elite guys: wlad, vk and ike, he got DOMINATED...

hes a good fighter, but i hate it when people say he beat vitali...... to try make him better than he really was
he techincally did "beat" vitali, but everyone who saw the fight, can clearely see vitali dominating, but tore up his shoulder, and had to throw in the towel the 9th round......
Yeh, u dont have to worry man i actually like Wlad and Vit but the fact is Calzaghe beat Byrd in the amatuers, can u imagine Joe in with the K's? haha weird thought huh
he got his ass whipped by wlad, twice.......
and his victory against vitali was BS, vitali was dominating him, but vitali tore his shoulder later in the fight and had to throw in the towel...
Thats fair but you have to remember this guy was fighting at light middleweight as an amatuer. Thats pretty impressive stuff!!
