you can have sports drinks as long as they aren't opened (or seal broken) before the bout and the commission approves. The real reason, and I'm not trying to be funny either, is after a while you keep drinking that stuff and you get hit in the stomach with a viscous body punch your pretty much fvkked. I know first hand that drinking anything other than water and getting hit in the stomach is the worst thing that can happen to you when competing in a sport.what he said to the letter.
is gatorade or redbull a performance enhancing drink? i have not seen yet boxers drink gatorade during fight. :boxing:
I use it as performance enhancer for sex... I drink a couple of bottles an hour before doing it, makes me last a lot longer. lol
i believe that the most recent fight where i saw a boxer drink gatorade was in the canelo vs cotto fight, cotto was drinking gatorade, i was surprised cus i thought you could only drink water. but i guess not
Am sure JMM was drink pee drinks all his fights..
Lol. My football coach always said sports drink aren't as good for as we think, he hated how our other coach gave us gatorade during games instead of just water.

Would it result in a Robbie Peden moment?
yeah, but footballers drink that stuff
True. I use to do it as well when I played, but I think getting hit solid in the stomach by a punch is what most boxers fear. I mean it's perfectly legal to drink sports drinks but no one does it, and those are the only reasons I can think of as to why; cramps and getting hit with body shots.
BTW before my reply from the first page gets flamed....here is proof backing up what I said earlier..
Straight from the horses mouth, here is what NVSAC says about this

Question: What drinks are allowed in the corner during a fight?
Answer: Water and electrolyte drinks are allowed in the corner. Any electrolyte drink must be brought to the arena in factory-sealed, plastic bottles. Moreover, a contestant must provide the Commission and its staff with information about the requested drink in sufficient time to make a determination as to whether the drink is approvable (e.g., no stimulants, alcohol, drugs, or other questionable ingredients, etc.). Currently, Smart Water, Option, Gatorade, Powerade and Propel are approved. Energy drinks and soft drinks are not allowed in the corner.
I'm pretty sure the rules say you can only have water.
