When i was younger Being called Champ meant one thing. The heavy weight Champ of the world. The days were fights were overly hyped . Star studded events like the 80-90's Knicks and show time Lakers. When the face of the Champ was on everything from shirts to cereals candy bar's and sports drinks. Where being Heavy weight Champ was bigger then being a rock star. Where the red carpet was rolled out and it wasn't a happening if the Champ wasn't there. Those were the days of Jack Joe Rocky Ali Tyson. Boxing was biggger badder better those days. Well my friend those days are gone. After what happen tonight in the heavy weight division. I don't see them coming back. Which hurts me to say.
HW divison post-Lewis has had its ups and downs. I watched a DVD of the Vitali-Corrie Sanders fight earlier and it begins with a big discussion of the future of heavyweight boxing.
The Klitschkos are the current world champs, but they just haven't captivated audiences in America since their inital few fights in America. The heavyweight division will be reignited in America once either someone beats them or they retire (probably the later). Everything moves in ups-and-downs. 140 and 147 is where the action is nowadays, but that won't last forever.
Yea true but America was gonna back Chris if that fat fcuker could have beat the klit. He would have been famous over night bc he was an American heavy weight.

It ain't right, but a lotta US fans just can't accept non US fighters running the show in what's supposed to be the glamor division of boxing. Those who can crave more excitement than what they feel they're getting with Wlad right now.
So you are saying that America is a World beater. Like if you not big in America it don't matter. I agree with that. Tbh

Once more an Americocentric viewpoint totally ignorant of the rest of the world. The Klitschkos are everything those other fighters were, only in a different part of the world.
EDIT: And if you're going to put "good read" in the thread title I expect more than a single paragraph of typo ridden nostalgic hokum. Make it three at least!
You say in other parts of the World the last great Champs where know the world over. Ali was the most famous person of the 2oth century. Mike Tyson was also know the world over. Before you star trying to bash read it first. Im talking where the champ was know would wide . Hell klits are only know to most of eastern Europe know where else.Where as the old day Champs where a global brand. It's not a lie when i say that is dead bc it is.
HW's got bigger
these guys are 230+ now
too slow to be exciting
skilled fighters, but plodding and dull
need more guys to step up from LHW-CW who bring speed
Dawson intends to finish his career at HW...........more guys like Haye and Adamek moving up would be good...........

Mayweather entered the sport and the attention turned towards him. When he retires the HW division will probably become relevant again.
are you serious? :nonono:
