At 2:07 of round 8 mayweather was saying to shane:
''USE the JAB, USE the ****ing JAB. ''
but mosely didnt have a jab.
Neither does pacman. Pacman learned the checkhook, but that wont work, only if mayweather decides to go full philly shell defense. But he wont.
I don't think it it is the jab or necessarily foot speed. I think the key is having a good boxing IQ to offset Mayweather's IQ. A lot of people think if they win a couple of rounds against Mayweather then that is the blueprint to beat him but it's not. The biggest key is being able to adjust and having good set of multiple skills. I don't think the DLH fight was as close as the score read but that is just my opinion.
You went from mentioning how Jones is so good without a jab against Toney to comparing Pacquiao to Jones. You fail to realize that Pacquiao gets hit at will and Jones rarely got grazed i nhis prime. From what I am understanding you're saying that Jones=Pacquiao and Toney=Mayweather? LOL. 3 completely different styles dude.
Pacquiao - Southpaw
Jones - Unorthodox
Mayweather - Orthodox
Jones vs Toney was unorthodox vs orthodox
Mayweather vs Pacquiao will be southpaw vs orthodox
You can't compare these fights unless they are the exact same styles. If you're going to base your Mayweather-Pacquiao prediction on what happened in Jones-Toney's fight...good luck with that man.
my god you are stupid beyond belief
Pacquiao doesn't have the reach like Oscar so the jab is not what he needs against Floyd. Pacquiao has something else- foot speed, head movement, and shots from angles. These are his strengths and he uses them well. And Floyd is going to be up against a guy that has more handspeed than him. Judah has troubled him with handspeed before.
Stop. what's the jab gonna do? get you a feel of the pull counter right of floyd?
Ever watch Jones-Toney? do you think jones completely dominated him via jab?
Dude people just don't get it. 1st why would a southpaw use a jab against an orthodox fighter and 2nd Roy showed us a long time ago how to beat the should roll defense. This is exactly why I have Martinez beating Floyd because his lateral quickness is light years ahead of Floyd's right now.
Plus the jab is not even a factor in a southpaw fight. Its a game of hooks and straights, the jab plays a minor part of this game. If the jab is used its only to check range not as a wepon, or move you or the guy into position for a real combo or shot.
IMO, Manny has only got a 4 round punchers chance at beating Floyd
You're going to talk about Jones? Jones is my #1 favorite fighter but even Reed will tell you he's the last guy you want to mimic. Jones was all mostly handspeed and reflexes/foootwork. You can't bring up Jones in a jab conversation man lol.
How do you think Wlad dominates his opponents? Using footwork? You need a good jab to beat Floyd. Pac doesn't have that, Mosley didn't have it, Hatton didn't have it, DLH had it and won in one of the judges' scorecards. One of the only scorecards Floyd ever lost as a pro, coincidentally came against a guy with a good jab?
As a Floyd fan I agree some what. I think any fighter lacking a nice SNAPPING JAB isn't a complete fighter. Now rather it takes a jab to beat FLoyd is opinion. Because in my opinion you can have a good jab but once floyd figures u out its a wrap. BUt in the case of Oscar vs Mayweather i dont think it was the jab that won him the score card. I think it was just his name because with or without the jab Oscar didnt land any clean punches. Plus floyd fought him at LMW a weight he had never fought at. Oscars comfortable weight. Had the fight been at 147 Floyd would've murdered oscar and his jab. But Pac is too short, less reach, off balance, no defense, weak body (been ko twice with body shots) poor foot movement. I'd say manny is lacking more then a jab!
Yea, you're right about the high guard, but he still sort of rolls whilst holding the guard.
The reason i dont think the jab will be important in this fight is because it never really is between an orthodox fighter and a southpaw.
What Manny needs is the looping right hook to direct floyd to a meeting with his straight left which will be there all night for manny if he can stay inside Floyds left foot.
Well as you know, Floyds the king at adjusting. Maybe the right and left land early, but once he adjusts and takes it away then what?
If Manny can't get Floyd out by round 4, its a wrap. Itl just be another clinic.
Oscar had some success with the jab due to his reach and height, Pac doesn't have that against Floyd and him pumping a strong jab will require him to get closer and be open for the counters IMO
Floyd won't be using the shoulder roll, have you ever seen Floyd fight a southpaw with the shoulder roll?
He'll be using a standard high guard. The shoulder roll can't defend against the straight left, but in certain sitiations it can get him out of trouble.
But movement is key, and Pac has a lot of it. But the way to dictate movement is with a jab, and Floyd has that. Foot speed is also a key, but Floyd not only has foot speed he has a nack for dictating where he fights in the ring. He dictates which direction you move, if he finds a flaw in your direction he'll make you go that way all night and pick you apart.
If you notice, guys don't always get off on Floyd. You see guys ready to throw then stop, that's because he gives you a false look, takes it away and pops you while you look.
Pac fights in a certain rythem, Floyd feeds off rythem. Manyy needs distance to get off, Floyd is a master at closing distance and pocket fighting. Shoulder to Pacs chest, Pac needs room so he has to step back POP POP 2 shots by Floyd then move out of range...
Pac will have to corner Floyd, make him stand and fight to have that punchers chance. But when have we see Floyd fight another mans fight and not his own?

Your lack of comprehension is staggering.
When did i say i want to mimic Jones?
When has Wlad fought someone that utilizes the shoulder roll?
Look. All im sayin is pac has very fast feet, and if your moving while throwing your punches that's a good way of neutralizing the counter rights those shoulder rollers love to use, it's also a good way to catch them as they turn away.
Go watch Jones-Toney again, it's all right there, when Toney leans away Jones follows his head and toney is forced to lean further leaving him unbalanced as Jones flurries away.

one can assume that a single jab does not catch out Mayweather. And even double jabs. Thing is, the jab can only be used to set up other shots, e.g. jab + body shots. Mayweather's opponents could not hope to catch him out or even hit him hard with just a single jab.
One thing I noticed during the Mosley fight was that Mosley let the left drop after extending it for the jab; this is one thing they teach you right at the beginning when you learn the ropes; pull the fist back to protect the face. This was one way Mayweather caught Mosley with counter-crosses; absolutely beautiful; and then weaved Mosley's return lead hook. Took Mosley back to school. Literally.
Manny may not need the jab with his footspeed, angles and combos but it would certainly help also him.
the person u described as being able to beat floyd is manny. however, there is no evidence that manny's style is the right style to beat floyd. i really dnt think it is. he had a hard time with a counter puncher like jmm. i think floyd is all wrong for manny. he just doesnt have the ring intel. to adjust when he needs to...im tellin u, thats gonna be his downfall.
as far as a jab, it is important. very much so, but it doesnt necessarily spell victory if floyd finds a way to negate it, which he's more than capable of doin.
hes right you gotta have a job, but you have to have a good jab and DOUBLE THE JAB UP.You cant just throw 1 jab at floyd, thats where the pull counter comes in, one jab, pull back and hit, but if you double or even triple the jab, you got a chance.
yea, so where exactly is this jab getting you? the jab is helpful but it can be any punch just to get him in position for the real strike, but it's all still useless if your not swift on your feet
To be effective Mosley needed a jab, from the beginning I was skeptical that his jab was up to the task but if he was able to jab effectively the fight would have looked a lot different.
Being bigger and having a good jab is a good place to start with looking at guys who could beat Floyd.

Yeah you gotta have the jab working to even be a great boxer. It sets up shots. If you can hit someone with teh jab then you can also find the range for your other punches....
THIS IS BOXING 101
