Why Is Tomasz Adamek Being Shut Out By The Major American TV Networks?

To be honest I don't know too much about the business side of boxing but he has gotten enough coverage from what I've seen. It's also more difficult for a foreign boxer to make their way into the American market. I think he's in a situation now where there aren't too many potential contenders to take on and is keeping busy with a fight against a relatively easy opponent. Not criticizing that, but I won't criticize anyone for not being interested in the fight either.

Those 40 year olds were top 3 ranked in the division. Michael Grant, Evander Holyfield and Roy Jones are not. All of the three should be retired. I am not going to really say that Adamek and his next fight belongs on a major network. But, Adamek-Cunningham II did. And, HBO didn't want to touch it. The first fight was a very good fight, the rematch was necessary and HBO didn't want to put money for that fight? But, they will for P-Will-Wright? Adamek-Johnson belonged on a major network. And, HBO didn't want to touch it But, the rather show Diaz-Malignaggi two fighters that were coming off a lost at the time? Or Arreola-McCline? Or Berto against a Mexican cop belong? I mean something is wrong that you can not find a P4P type level fighter, who has an exciting style, who does somewhat of a fan base in Chicago and New Jersey, and you can't find him on a major network? Something is wrong when you can watch all these other recycled fighters and not Adamek.

I wouldn't call it being an "opponent" though if you're favoured to win by most. The network likes Arreola, because he's a draw, win or lose. Adamek was only the "opponent" in the sense that Arreola brought most of the viewers, but it was by no means a fight that was set up for Arreola to win. If Adamek ever fights a Klitschko brother or David Haye, the major networks will surely show the fight. There just aren't too many fights that will bring as much interest in an Adamek fight. What fight would you suggest that HBO should showcase Adamek in? Against Chambers? Sam Peter? In network talk, you are definitely an opponent if you are being brought there with hopes that you bring a credible fight but lose to their favorite fighter. The betting public might have made Adamek a favorite (probably spurred on by reports that Arreola wasn't training for the fight), but HBO wanted Arreola. The networks like him because he is a draw, yes. They like him even more because Al Haymon is his manager though. I doubt HBO showcases Adamek but Chambers, Peter, even a Tony Thompson would be good showcases. The Klitschkos would be a definite in since HBO loves them and Haye has to work out something with a US network.

Adamek knew he wasn't getting on HBO, so you keep busy. Honestly, if Adamek was with Al Haymon it wouldn't even be an issue. Arreola is with Haymon and HBO seems to only do business with him. Librado Andrade vs. Robert Stieglitz on HBO anyone? Exactly right, nobody should be fooled by why really that fight was on HBO. It was cuz of Arreola connection with Al Haymon. You can put Arreola in there with McCline but you can't put Adamek in there with Grant? And, nobody really see's a problem here?

He didn't get shunned when he fought Arreola. It has to do with the potential opposition. No one really cares to see a top 10 contender beat up on a 40+ year old. It won't be a major fight, just a showcase. cough Chad Dawson cough One of HBOs superstars, ring a bell? :lol1:

What's your opinion on this? Isn't it odd that Adamek is getting shunned by the major networks, HBO and Showtime? Great question. Hopefully it will change now that Adamek defeated one of HBOs precious HWs. If not then perhaps Adamek could somehow change his ethnicity. Should do the trick.

Adamek was the opponent in that fight. He just happened to be better prepared and won. He was the betting favorite.

I'm not real sure what direction this thread is going since he's been on U.S. TV lately and will be again (although against Grant....ahem...) Without HBO/Showtime money it's hard to attract a better opponent. I remember this was the case when Adamek was trying to get a fight with Matt Godfrey but Showtime turned it down. He wound up fighting Bobby Gunn instead.

You're a world champion in two different divisions, on the fringes of most pound for pound lists, have only lost to one fighter in Chad Dawson and draw 10,000 fans to the Prudential Center. Fighting on ESPN2 is an insult to such a champion. Adamek should be fighting on HBO and Showtime and it's a damn shame that he isn't.
