Not a very good decision in my view. Don't get me wrong, it was a very competitive give and take fight. But Mares outworked Perez and closed the fight out where it mattered. Perez is still a damn good fighter though, and I look forward to seeing him in the future. Too bad that Juan Ma Lopez wasn't thrown in that tough this early in his career.
Perez > Ponce De Leon.
fukk this shit man... i was robbed :(
yeah that was fukked up man, you won that fight, but you should've stopped riding your bike too much, that's what killed you.
It was even more obvious seeing that live. He got away w/ a lot of very low blows.
And btw... I will gladly bet with you on Rafa/Juanma if it happens in the next year.
Rafa still got it.
:D
yeah the ref seemed to be ignoring the constant fouls which werent that bad but were still fouls. lol you got your confidence back now before you didnt sound so sure about that. i gladly accept and look forward to taking about 100 thousand of your points based on your blind loyalty

dude why do you hate on all PR fighters?
I had Perez winning 115-113. He was the aggressor in the fight, and he consistently landed the harder, more telling blows. Mares came on strong as shit at the end of the fight, but it was too late in my opinion. A rematch has to happen.
Mares lost rounds 3 and 4 pretty convincely to me. He also gave at least 2-3 rounds in the middle round by backing up and not throwing and landing great punches. That's at least 4-5 rounds he lost before making that great comeback in the last 3 rounds. Not to dismiss that there were some close rounds that could have gone to either fighter
I have no problem with the decision but I do think Mares will win once the rematch is set.
mares clearly won the late rounds but fights arent judged on who finishes stronger they are judged by rounds and i think a draw was the right score but wouldnt be mad if mares got the edge by one point. by the way did anybody notice mares straying low many times throughout the fight.
I wasn't implying that.
Just the fact that Mares was clearly acting like he thought he won it and Perez had his head down as soon as he got to his corner and his crew had to pump him up.
Just look at the facial reactions of both fighters immediately after the fight and you'd have a good idea who thought he won it.

i had the same score as denkin, 115-113 for mares, abner looked a bit gassed in the middle rounds but was ahead in the early round, and then sucked it up big time in the championship rounds.
i thought he finished better than perez.
it was a game fight, and i said, that it was really a tough one to call; a draw wouldn't be out of the question, and low and behold, they called it a draw.
and the only reason i can live with a draw for this fight, is because both guys came to win, both guys fought their fight, both guys didn't want to give up an inch, and both guys fought like winners.
any way you slice it, it was a good fight, really a close one, although a draw is fair to perez a little bit more than mares, it was a great fight that was good for boxing, and both guys stock went up tremendously.
mares really stepped it up towards the end, which impressed the hell out of me because i thought he was getting weaker in some of those middle rounds.
great fight, would love to see them go at it again.
scored the fight a draw but had mares winning all of the late rounds. both were impressive mares is the truth that kid has a big future and perez is a danger for everyone in that division.
Mares could not have won that by more than 116-112, and I don't think Perez could have won it by more than 115-113. There were a bunch of close rounds. I think in the closer rounds though Perez controlled the action and landed the better shots. Most of the rounds I had Mares winning he won big, the rounds Perez won were closer. If I had to score the fight in whole I'd give it to Mares, but that's not how boxing is scored.
I'm just your average American white guy and I had it 114-114.
I gave Perez rounds 2-5 and I think that's where some rounds could have swung the other way.
I just thought Perez got beat at his own game at the end of the fight and Mares fought like a warrior even while he was on the move. You could still see him getting leverage on his punches.
2 puerto ricans cant give a mexican credit for winning, thats why puerto rico is the boxing capital for biased robberies for the hometown fighter
only in PRICO
perez and marez are both great fighters... but i think that marez undoubtably won the first two and the last four rnds... and several others were close.... so mathematically, a draw doesnt make sense.... marez won, the look on his face when they announced the draw made me want to drink a cold one for him!!! lol
