Now there are some who say that we still dont know if Margarito had the wraps for this fight or whatever but lets just assume he did for the sake of this argument. Some think he still has a very good chin & pretty good power even without the wraps. So officially, who do you think wouldve won without the loaded gloves? Both guys were near there prime at the time

loaded gloves or no....Margarito.........
Because of body shots?? Because Cotto's punches had no effect on Tony?? Because Cotto didn't clinch for jack shit?? Because Cotto isn't the best boxer when it comes to stamina??
I hate it when people leave shit out. Denial at its finest!!
You left out the plaster making all those body shots that much harder.
Denial is not just a river an Africa.
Even if Marg had plaster in that fight they weren't helping him land uppercuts. Cotto did a lot of things wrong in that fight.
I don't know where I stand on the plaster thing anymore. It might have been blown out of proportion.
He broke Cotto's nose in the second round and it takes a while for plaster to harden, so your point is moot.
You mean 15-20 minutes is not long enough for Plaster to harden?
That's about how long it took to get from the dressing room to the ring.
That's assuming Capetillo put the plaster in Marg's wraps right before the ring walk.
If you add in warm-up time, plus the ring walk and then the ring announcements, plus another 2 minutes for the first round, Marg waving his arms all the while which is making it dry faster, I think there's plenty of room for me to suspect that the plaster had hardened by round 2.
Marg just didn't land any solid combinations until the 8th when Cotto was slowing down.
How ever Margarito's hands were, Cotto was outboxing him handly early in the bout. And Margarito wore him down. If Cotto had better conditioning he still would have boxed his way to a decision. And however Margarito hands were wrapped, we should assume there were the same for his bouts with Clottey and Paul Williams too. They stood up to the pressure and punishment.
Further evidence of plaster IMO. Marg wasn't landing anything clean until the last round and somehow managed to break Cotto's nose?
Marg is not a power puncher, he's a volume puncher that breaks you down with relentless pressure.
Breaking Cotto's nose early sends me a big red flag.
Everything about that fight is suspect except Cotto's crisp clean punches and Marg's iron chin. Like I said, Marg's relentless pressure could've broken Cotto down without the plaster, but then again if Cotto wouldn't have taken such heavy damage from the plaster he might've had the stamina to go the entire 12 rounds the way he fought the first 7.

So that's why Cotto got his nose broken and was still getting worn down by body punches. That fight is like almost a mirror image of Angulo-Julio. Margarito is the more skilled fighter. You don't hit your opponent four times in a row on the chin with uppercuts and have a skill deficit against him. Check the overall power punch stats. Cotto got smoked in that dept.

I honestly believe Marg used plaster for the majority of his most recent fights because I don't think he was pulling names out of a hat to decide who he was gonna plasterize.
That being said, what really shined through out the fight was Marg's chin and relentlessness that might have broken down Cotto in the final rounds. Regardless though, Cotto was beating Marg's ass for 7 rounds and it wasn't even close until the 8th.

Good post.

ahahahhahaahhahahaha
you my babygirl icetea are the closest cottofan. :fing02:
also the poll says otherwise
so time to stop crying
Come on we all know he has a man crush on Cotto. :luvbed:
.
If he didn't use the wraps (I believe he did) I think that Cotto would have withstood his attack more. I think that Cotto would have been more durable in the fight, and wouldn't have broken down if Marg didn't have that shit. I think Cotto would have outboxed Marg like in the beggining of the fight and won a Ud. Nevertheless, he would have still been hurt because Marg was taxing his ass with those nasty uppercuts. Thus, I think that Cotto would have won that fight.
I just want to point out thought that Pacquiao would beat Cotto any day. So 4 those of you using the marg damaged Cotto excuse and that's the only reason pac beat him stfu
Agreed pac would beat a pre Margarito Cotto but the fact is Pac still fought a damaged Cotto at a catchweight. and if that Cotto-margarito fight went to the cards I believe Cotto would have won a SD
Or he has morals/standards as a man and doesn't want to give a cheater like Margarito a payday. Right now Miguel is a huge name is the sport and fighting him is a privilege and reward. Miguel feels like he was wronged and is entitled to his opinion. I agree with him especially in the sport of boxing, where it is possible that Margarito took a part of his career from him and it might of not been legit. If I thought someone cheated me I wouldn't look at him, speak of him, and I certainly wouldn't give him a chance to earn millions on my name.
Or Cotto is just scared period. He couldn't turn down the rematch initially because he had no excuse and would look like a complete coward after the quit job he pulled in the first fight. Margarito has already told Cotto to quit bitching and step into the ring if he's so pissed about what may or may not have happened. Hiding behind the excuse of not wanting to give Margarito a payday is really weak for avoiding a rematch especially if you actually believed he kicked your ass while cheating.
Margarito already has a huge fanbase so he doesn't need Cotto. Chances are good that he'll be fighting for millions against Pacquiao later in the year.
