Agree. Can't teach an old dog new tricks. At certain points, May might try to go on the offensive, and Pac can't allow that. He'd lose for sure. I think it may be harder for Pac to assert himself then people think. Only thing he can really do is apply pressure until someone breaks. He isn't outboxing May.
I totally agree if mayweather fights instead of box manny has a better chance but will take a hell of beating. If he tries to assert himself or catches mayweather with a hard shot, I will be worried about pacquiao. If you watch the mosley fight after floyd got hit it was serious business after that no playing around no smile on his face. If you watched the hbo fight lampley was like in the corner floyd looked embarrassed after the second round, and when floyd is in his "money may" character nobody has a bigger ego than him, so I knew it was time to get down to business. This is the first time in his past couple of fights that when floyd threw punches that you can see on his face that they were threw with the intent to hurt not just tag shane. And no one can make me believe that shane stopped throwing because he was tired, he underestimated floyd's power and after getting hit flush a couple of times he knew better than to just let his hands go. And finally, the reason floyd's chin is so good is because his neck is so strong, everyone has seen him building his neck muscles on 24/7. If you watch the first punch, which is really a knock out punch, floyd's whole upperbody moves to the side instead of just his head, but if you see some of the punches mosley took it looked like he could of got whiplash.
Now on to the actual topic of the post:
I would make sure to tell pacquiao to block out the break because as soon as the ref steps away floyd will throw a punch. I would tell him not to try and fight on the inside with mayweather because he is too good at creating a space big enough for him to through his short hooks but to small for the other person to throw a meaningful punch. Plus floyd is too strong to try to fight on the inside I've seen him create just enough space sparring with a heavyweight I'm pretty sure he can do it with ease on pac. I would try to teach pac to block the left hook like nazim did shane atleast take one punch away. I would try to prepare him for the body punishment he going to endur. Because unless he is in his fighting mode he punishes your body the whole fight, especially on the inside. And last I would try to tell him not to underestimate floyd's power even though I cant see pac taking him serious until he gets hit by floyd, there are too many people that say floyd has feather punches but when you talk to fighters after they have fought him they will tell you a different story.
The absolute last thing Roach should do to prepare Pac for Mayweather is try to change how he fights. Pacquiao should just do what he does best, which is use great side to side movement and throw combos, which would keep the pressure on Mayweather to keep up. If it works, it works, if not, well there you have it.

Bring a pistol to the ring??
LOL...But Pacquiao won't be able to pull the trigger! Then what the haters going to say about that? He's a shot fighter, he gassed out early, he's too small, he was injured, the ref didn't let him fight his fight, the ref stopped it too early, GBP screwed him, he's blood drained, the testing disrupted his camp, he's a congressman he wasn't focused, Floyd ducked him for 2 years this don't count, Floyd's a cheater. Waahhh

I can feel the frustration Pac will go through due to flaw in modern day boxing. We are the audience and I can bet most of us would want an exciting fight, but get ready for the chicken floyd to show up. I do not blame him, but this will be the only way to beat Pac. All of Floyd's physical advantage and his natural fighting style will cause frustration for Pac.
If I was in pac's corner, I would just say fight your fight. Try to stay midrange and throw like how you trow. If Floyd runs, set traps. Throw a slow jab, see if he will lean back to counter with a right then risk going shot for a shot. If Zab can throw that right uppercut as floyd was coming in, Pac
should be able to do it also.
manny has terrible timing---he can catch you with sneaky punches through combos like he did with cotto, but that won't work against a guy with a guard like floyd's-----people keep talking about manny's speed and him timing floyd's speed---that's a suicide mission for manny----coz floyd's best weapon offensively and defensively is his timing-----
the only style that will have a chance at beating floyd's style, is floyd's style-----that's it----manny would have to emulate floyd and confuse the shit out of him----for 12 rounds----i've heard he's been emulating floyd some in training camp though----good luck to him---coz manny's style will never have nothing more than a puncher's chance of competing with floyd's style---this i know----
pac has all the tools to beat floyd. all he has to do is to stay disciplined. lots of movement to counter floyds speed. lots of headmovement and when floyd is in position attack with swift attacks, combos then get out. i dont see what floyd can do if pac uses his assets smartly.
Really?
That's interesting.
whats the point fight aint gonna happen
Probably right.
Nice thread but nobody seems really confident in what Roach's gameplan might be. I am guessing there are no pro trainers commenting. That is a testament to PBF IMO regardless. Roach probably still doesn't know what he really wants to do if the fight gets made.
What would you emphasize in training? How would you try to solve the Mayweather puzzle?
I will tell him to get ready for an asswhooping because it doesnt matter what shape of Pacquiao comes into the ring. He's not on Mayweather's level.

If i'm pac and facing floyd in the ring, i'll keep saying to him "damn, you are gay...why don't you come out of the closet". It's not illegal in boxing right?
He needs to figure out a way to make floyd brawl with him for him to have a chance. From what I've read floyd doesnt want to knock him out he wants to embarrass him(which hurts his career more than a knockout).
When floyd leans forward and goes into his potshot form, I would tell pac to back off or keep side stepping to try and through floyd off, because floyd is capable of throwing three punches from this stance(straight right, straight left, and the left hook) and camouflages which one he is going to throw pretty well, he just throws the straight right more often.
As far as people talking about the corley fight, mayweather fought in that match he didnt box, I dont think pac can take that many flush punches to the face or all those body shots. And the only round that floyd really got hurt was in round 4 and he ran to the corner excited afterwords while corley stumbled to the corner, and dont forget corley lost every round except for maybe one, thats what you call someone having trouble with somebody.
And since people are focusing on the corley fight roach needs to become more like that dude in corley's corner that kept saying crazy stuff like "THAT MOTHERF**KERS DONE NOW ALL YOU GOT TO DO IS FIGHT HIM" after a 10-8 round for corley that was almost a 10-7.
And please can someone point me to a fight were mayweather actually loses the first 3 or 4 rounds, thats one fight I havent seen.
He lost 3 out of 4 rounds to Zab Judah. Look up the fight on Youtube.

i'd tell packy to be himself , let his hands go and never hesitate to attack!
Good post.
Pac has improved a lot from the past, but he's not or never will be a "ring genius" He's very physically gifted; relentlesness, speed, power etc. The way he throws his punches are not really fundamentally sound, but it works for him, when people learn and train for defense it's usually for for sharp, well placed punches. And the time pac punches is usually unpredictable.
Freddie roach cant turn Pac into sugar ray leonard, and he shouldn't. All the things i've mentioned before are his bread and butter, they need to focus on those things and add some slight adjustments.
A lot of people think the jab is the way to beat Floyd because Oscar had some success with it, but they forget that oscar had an outstanding jab. It was quick, good power and he knew how to use it.
Overall i think both floyd and manny both have the tools to upset each others rythm.
Floyd has the speed, ringsmarts, defense and countering ability and he's outstanding with each of those things.
Manny has his speed, power, incredible workrate, awkward angles and timing to give anyone trouble.
I could see the left hand leads being effective for manny. Someone mentioned potshoting floyd, i dont think thats entirely out of the question, but i would imagine floyd catching on as the fight goes on.
There's a lot of hype behind the fight, i dont think it's going to live up to it, but it's a very good fight.
