When a fighter can get that many wins and two titles without being in with a world class contender it doesn't mean much. It does make me wonder why they didn't test him more? I doubt he would have gone much further fighting 2nd tier fighters and I doubt he would have beaten many of the world class fighters he would have had to face in the future. How could anyone think he could have been an ATG when he hasn't fought anyone yet.
?????
Not when you are fight stiffs.
No. People are making two fundamental mistakes here.
One they're assuming he was a spring chicken who had plenty of room to grow. He was 28 and very flawed, as seen in Ricky Hatton you can't teach an old dog new tricks. He would get exposed at a higher level.
Two they're assuming he has an impressive record. I ask anyone to name 5 impressive heads on his resume.
If this happened to someone like Andre Ward, Alexandre of Bradley. There would be some sense of wonder in my head as they have both youth and ability.
Excellent response.
there is no should have, could have or would have.. he never got a chance to prove himself against top opposition and he took his own life so we will never know.
Peterson?
Come on man... Valero was on another level. Bradley is good, but again, Valero was on another level.
You could just see it in him. 27 k.o's is hard to do without being atg material.

he was getting better and better, he had a drastic change vs demarco, boxing more, more slicker, sure it wasnt perfect but he was definity improving
Fact is he beat nobody of any importance Bradley Devon Paulie and even Khan has Valero never did.

The only thing you're doing is speculating. What's not speculation is that Peterson stepped up and fought one of the best at 140. Valero never did.

I think so. If he wasnt so fed up with fighting Pacman and stayed at 130 a little longer before going to 135. Dude had 2 fights and wanted to move to 140 and fight Bradley! He could've been great at 135 imo. Could have went to war with any of the top dogs there and possibly beat most of them. He rushed his career too quick tho, But him fighting Pacquiao was his motivation to keep winning. He had the potential to be an atg with the right managment
Valero was very overrated on here and I doubt would have beaten Peterson had that fight not fallen through.
lolz at the discussions about him beating Bradley and Pac ffs.
He was ok but more a product of soft opposition.
He would have walked right through Peterson!
Not taking into look that 24 of his 27 opponents were poor and/or journeymen he was extremely flawed technically.
He kept his hands down a lot,he always had his chin out to be hit,he smothered himself on the inside way to much,he could be caught coming in counterpunching, his jab wasn't super impressive, his punch technique was flawed taking away from his power, etc.
Very good fighter he would have turned out but an all time great I wouldn't say so.
