Schaefer is attempting to bring together a super card on Sky Box Office in Cardiff in July, which could include Amir Khan in a late night show, with Calzaghe versus Hopkins as the co-main event.
Calzaghe defeated Hopkins on a split points decision in a Las Vegas superfight with in April 2008, having been put down in the opening round. Hopkins had hyped the fight with the words “I’ll never lose to a white boy”. In a tight decision for Calzaghe, Hopkins ate his words, and has chased a re-match ever since.
Telegraph Sport understands that Schaefer will come to the UK later this month and will discuss plans for Khan and Calzaghe with Barney Francis, managing director of Sky Sports.
“I have spoken to Joe several times about fighting Bernard Hopkins in Cardiff. He is ambivalent. Some days he says ‘yes’ he’d like to do it, other days he is not sure if he wants to get back in the ring," Schaefer said.
"There are days when he wants to do it and days he would rather not. Bernard would love to go over to Wales to fight Joe, and I think we could make it a major event there. I think the Welsh public would enjoy a return match, this time in Cardiff.”
However, Calzaghe told Telegraph Sport two weeks ago when he was in Las Vegas for the Shane Mosley-Floyd Mayweather contest: “I am enjoying myself and not really desperate to get back into the ring. I’m not desperate for money. But never say never. This is boxing.”
Calzaghe’s two fights at the Millennium Stadium, for Mikkel Kessler and Peter Manfreddo, drew crowds of more than 50,000.

Hopkins lost to a white boy, plain and simple, and Hopkins/Calzaghe II is a fight NO ONE wants to see. Hopkins has ducked Chad Dawson for about 4 years now. Retire.
I support ALL B.Hop scraps....the good ones, the bad ones and the ugly ones!! :boxing:
must be a philly thing. lol. that's the only way i can comprehend what you wrote.
Wow, I didn't know Calzaghe sold that great! That number is around where Floyd and Pac sell around right? Klitschkos still sell the most at 60,000 tickets though.
Calzaghe= Wales man, attendance would probably have been more if it had started earlier. It started at 1.30 am over here, so that all the yanks could catch it at prime time.
I can understand why Joe would want to rematch Hopkins considering the slightly unsatisfactory manner of his victory, however it would probably make for a poor fight again as Hopkin's is a dirty, cheating fecker.
this aint even possible. july? thats a month and a half away. theres no time for promoting, training, or even organizing this card. id like to see it, but no way in hell its going to happen.
I'll never pay to see Bernard fight. The dude is the biggest conman boxing has ever seen.
If Joe really wants to comeback then he should either wait for the super six to be over, or take on Lucian Bute or Chad Dawson.
Bernard is DONE as a professional fighter.
And that Khan vs. TBA will turn out to be KHAN vs. PRESCOT or Jose Cotto.
Thats what BHOP called Calzaghe, yet I think both of their careers are very comparable.

Bernard Hopkins is just a paranoid ghetto thug trying to get some "prestige". It shows with how he's handling Golden Boy telling him to retire. Bernard, you looked terrible against a punching bag, you're done. Nobody even wants to watch you against ANYBODY! Except for maybe a well-promoted HW fight or Chad Dawson (which would still only do like 125k PPV's....tops)
Is Goldeboy TRYING to destroy boxing? Seems like they're sucking up to Hop after what he had to say about them.
Sucking up to Hopkins wouldn't be allowing a good ref to ref Calzaghe/Hopkins II. I do not think Hopkins and Golden Boy Promotions are getting along to well even if they are doing business between each other. Also wasn't BHOP a partial owner at one time? Or did he lose his rights some how?

If Joe comes back he should face someone in a hardish tune up fight like Robert Stieglitz, Andrade or Shunenov maybe even Glen Johnson if he beats Tavouris Cloud at 175. They are all winnable fights even if Joe is only 80% of what he was.
Hopkins will make the fight a bad one....again, if you stick Khan in with Katsidis, Prescott or Maidana I would consider buying that.
