In my opinion, something was different about Victor Ortiz last night.
He was more patient and calculated, more defensive/cautious and less aggressive. I thought he could've stopped Nate Campbell last night if he had pushed the pedal to the medal a little bit more.
So, do you like this "NEW" version of Victor Ortiz?
His plan lastnight was to stick and move amd that's what his team has been working on...Ortiz has really never shown defensive skills before he was always on the attack...he's transitioning ok and looks faster and a little better than his last two fights...he needs to mix it up though because Ortiz is knowm for being aggressive and like some ppl said with that kimd of power you don't always have to be on the defensive...but I think he needs a new trainer maybe Nasim Richardson or Rodger Mayweather...theres so much you can create in a young talent like Ortiz I just don't think his trainer can teach him anything impressive but his trainer does give good advice on the corner...he should get a new trainer and still keep the one he has as an assistant trainer
Fighting an old campbell doesn't prove anything. Ortiz was fighting scared.
yeah right. there was nothing to be scared of.
ortiz had confidence in his ability to outbox campbell... and he did for every single round.
if anybody saw his fights after maidana, this "new" style would come as no surprise.
he's making an effort to fight intelligently, but i think he went a bit overboard last night. a lot of wasted movement and wasted angles. he'd move, create an angle but he wouldnt take advantage of it.
i think it's great he's transitioning to a power boxer, but i think he's overcompensating. he doesnt have to be a "pure" boxer with that power. he just needs to fight intelligently and not try to play to the crowd, but his power should be enough of an obstacle for his opponents to get past.
I wanted him to go toe to toe more but his whole gameplan was to box and move. It wasnt that entertaining but he won every round so I can't blame him..
Noone can blame him,Fans criticized him for fighting a stupid fight against
maidana. He tried to put a good action packed fight and quit. Now he's
fighting safe and gets criticized still.
He seemed a lot sharper with the style then he did in his previous two fights. He's learning how to throw sharp combos when people come to him. I think he's a better fighter when he appiles pressure though. He should learn how to apply pressure and then get out of there.
Now he let's people come to him, he's a better pressure fighter then he is a boxer.
I like what he showed last night.
I never really rated Ortiz as a "boxer" but he showed he could box last night.
Campbell had no answers for Ortiz's movement and high pace.
Ortiz didn't lose a round against a very good veteran fighter so props to him.
I liked it...I was very critical of him last week, but he showed a different side that I haven't seen looked very impressive. It made the fight pretty boring, the khan-mal was easier on the eye I thought, but I think if ortiz had used that style against maidana he would have got home, no problems. He started trying to his power boxing style for a bit in the 9th round and started getting caught and looking like shit again, so yeah he should stick to boxing, and if that doesn't work then come forward and use his power but only as a plan b.
I wanted him to go toe to toe more but his whole gameplan was to box and move. It wasnt that entertaining but he won every round so I can't blame him..
ortiz what?
ortiz who?
oh yeah the quitter that doest want to get hit, he needs to find another profession cause i just dont see it in him no mental or heart in him still. what a waste has the skills and power. owell next
lol, do you want to get hit? i didnt think so! boxers dont WANT to get hit either!
I didn'nt like it, but it is a smart change in his part.
I'm just used to him coming forward and wrecking people, I guess that Ortiz stayed behind after the Maidana loss.

I don't think it was a "new" version, but IMO Ortiz fought the type of fight that would give Campbell problems, which was movement, pick your shots, and try to take him out late.
I actually quite liked it, It show he can follow a game pla and not get carried away. He was fighting an experience fighter in campbell who was looking to get ortiz into a tear up but ortiz used his head and he need to be able to do that more often.
I liked that he actually boxed, plus I know in the back of my mind, that he can slugg if he wants to. I think he respected Campbell's power and didn't want to get caught punching, so he played it safe and boxed very nicely. He still needs to work on keeping his hands up when backing out though, but I like his upside, especially compared to Khan's.
He obviously had that safety-first style hammered into him during training after the Maidana disaster. I think he needs to find a happy medium between his older, more aggressive style and this new one. I like Ortiz though, I think he's very multi-dimensional - he just needs a bit more refining and he will be up there with the likes of Bradley and Alexander IMO.
