I have a special spot for this fighter because he is the first fighter I ever saw fight in person, in a visit to family in the Ukraine in 2007. He fought a local favorite Kudriavstev very bravely and was very effective with his jab. He finished off the Ukrainian with an explosive left hook-straight right combination that shocked the massive crowd in Lenin Square in Donestk (including me).
Since I have been impressed by him and the improvement of his jabbing and footwork. His talent has caught the attention of his people as his last fight in Namibia attracted the country's record crowd of 3,000 fans. But I feel he has more to offer world boxing fans even though he is 31. He fights Miguel Acosta on May 29.
What do you think of this fighter?
The fight with Acosta should be interesting. I remember a while back (November) when Ring Magazine had him as their Fighter of the Month after the victory over Urbano Antillon. It's #6 vs. #7 according to their rankings. Should draw a good crowd in Windhoek
It was quite an atmosphere, and after Moses knocked Kudriavstev down 3rd and final time, the arena went silent. But Paulus' respectfully applauded his opponent and the crowd and the arena was quite taken with him and cheered his triumph. It was one of those interesting moments in athletics.
That looks like some atmosphere, lucky you were there man. I think that Paulus does have something to offer the lw division and May 29 will be a good oppurtunity if he should win to deliver on this.
He beat Shimada soundly (who is solid-he beat Ameth Diaz) and has raised interest in boxing in Namibia which is great.
