Now i know getting knocked out could ruin a chin, but i also know Ali was in war after war n his chin seemed 2 hold up fine. Im starting now and my trainer has been putting in me in with 30 yr old pros and ive been slugging it out with them and just been in some brutal wars. I just turned 19 and started training in sept. Do you think this is building up my chin or just taking something out of me?

Getting your brain rattled is never good for you.
Yeah it's probably okay for you to get your clock rung every once in a while so you know what it feels like, and you know that you can take it.
But taking repeated punishment just for the sake of "trying to build up your chin" is ****ing stupid.
Look at Fernando Vargas.
all takin shots does for you is cause u brain damage. u cant build up your chin. either u have one or you dont. neck muscles helps u absorb blows but thats about it.
my theory is that the human body is amazing, and it can adapt to whatever situation/enviroment
there are bugs in this world that have evolved themselves to look like plants in order to camoflauge themselves against predators
an octopus can literally morph into the same colors of its surroundings and blend right in

humans are the same in the sense that we can adapt to things. for example, if you get hit constantly, eventually you will be able to adapt and take shots better. its already been proven that our bones re-calcify and become stronger whenever we cause trauma to them. kickboxers in thailand can kick bamboo trees and not feel a thing, because they have conditioned their shins over many years. but if a regular person kicked a tree, that would wither in pain. our bones rebuild themselves harder and better than the last time...that is why certain people can break bricks/blocks of ice, etc. with their hands and not get hurt ...its from years of training and conditioning their hands
my theory is that your chin can become more conditioned to take hits better over the years. so yes, i think you can improve your chin.
theres a reason why a pro boxer can take a punch square in the face and a regular person cant. punch a regular person in the face and they will fall down like a girl and complain about their nose bleeding (or get KTFO) ...a boxer will take it though. i dont buy that bullshit about being "born" with a chin..certain people may be born with slightly harder heads but the difference is very small. it all depends on your heart/conditioning
for further proof, just look at mmgay. those guys get KTFO on a regular basis. ive seen NUMEROUS fights that lasted 7, 6, 8 seconds etc. sometimes these guys go down on the first jab. that would NEVER happen to a boxer though. why? because a boxer has done hundreds, if not thousands of more rounds sparring and his chin is far better conditioned than the mmgay fighters chin
thank you man

Getting knocked out is all about your body's ability to withstand a blow to the head...its genetic and is all about the way your brain rattles in your skull, the affect this has on your central nervous system, your ability to recover your senses, etc
That aint gonna be trained, its the way you are....you have a weak chin or you dont, or somewhere in between...
Stupid. Their's no such thing as building your chin. Maybe building your confidence to take a shot because a lot of people when they get hit clean, kills their confidence and takes them out of the, but the more shots you take could build confidence, but it sure as hell don't build your chin. That's impossible. It's just stupid putting yourself at more risk to take more punches then you have to and then get KTFO.
no need 2 call me stupid, im just starting and curious. Who knows i thought maybe its like dulling the nerves in your knuckles or something like that where if u constantly hit it, the area heals up and is stronger.. And maybe you missread the question. Im not taking hits and putting myself at risk on purpose.. I just wanted 2 kno if its benifiting me to be in these wars and making me stronger or if u just have a certain amount of them u can be in and then ur a shot fighter.
Good, competitive sparring helps. If you get used to taking some decent shots (not knocked out cuz that is brain damage) then you can deal with pain and the psychological side of it far better. If you have a bad chin it is a good idea to work hard on those legs and thighs. Also build up the neck muscles (watched Timothy Bradley working out).
Thats not my question, and i myself have never been hurt in a fight and have taken everything they had 2 give. My question is, is this taking something out of me or building me up?
Neither, like he said if you have a weak chin you have a weak chin, nothing you can do about it.
Can't build it up (or take away), it's all to do with your genetics. Chin is something you're born with, there's no improving it.
You can build up your neck muscles to help a little bit like Scotland said but that's all.

Taking shots in sparring can help your facial features hold up for when you get in actual fights.
Its different if you get a cut though, you will more likely get cut in that area again.
In terms of taking shots, its not natural for us to be getting hit in the head constantly, so I cant really see it having a positive affect. The best you can do is build up your neck muscle which will help you absorb harder shots.
;I think they are doing that so that you can show what you are worth at your age, they did with me I had to spar with 25+ when I was 17/18, and it is just for you to show them what you can take and give back! All good for your future my friend!! :boxing:
it starts when your a kid, well it did for me. street fights built it up, but even that i don't know, i guess you're either born with it, or you're not.
If you have a weak chin i don't think you could do anything about it.
Thats not my question, and i myself have never been hurt in a fight and have taken everything they had 2 give. My question is, is this taking something out of me or building me up?
Building up your neck muscles can make a little difference. Some fighters with experience will be able to deal with taking shots but it certainly doesn't build up your chin.
