A rival. Mayweather has had a few tough fights, but no one that has given him all that he can handle and then some.
Ali had Frazier
SRR had Jake LaMotta
SRL had Hearn(or Duran, however you see it)
even Pacquiao has JMM.
I guess that's why very few give him the credit he is due, because he hasn't been forced to rise above an evenly matched opponent, wouldn't say it's his fault, just not anyone that can step to his skill & conditioning.
wow, thanks to all the pactards from turning my thread from a good point of discussion to a flamer thread, but none of you seem to have an answer for why you jump so quickly on a thread about Mayweather to talk shit, who are you really obsessed with?
well, what the fukk do you REALLY want to hear?
that floyd is soooOOoooOoooo good that he cant develop a rival?
Ouch!
All this back and forth with Pac and May... The fight hasnt even been signed yet and these forums are lit. I dont even wanna know what this place will look like come the month of the fight! Floyd has never had his ass on the mat, his -0- taken away, and a opponent who comes close to being as talented as he is. Im not a Floyd cock rider or a Pac hater. Im a fan of BOXING.

You will never find a rival unless you challenge yourself consistantly......something Floyd hasn't done in his career.
For all we know:
Casa at 130
Johnston at 135
Tszyu at 140
Cotto at 147
Margarito 147
Williams at 147
Winky at 154
and a bunch of other fighters could have fit that bill. To assume he was just too good as to why he didn't have a rival is a bit naive IMO.
Pretty hard to argue with this post!
Floyd challenged himself right out of the gates in his career with big wins over experienced fighters like Genaro Hernandez, Angel Manfredy, a killer in Diego Corrales and the beast JL Castillo...
It was after the Castillo fight where Floyd took a leave of absence from fighting the best...thats just the truth.
Floyd's fight with Sugar Shane is refreshing and I hope Floyd is once again committed to fighting the top notch guys.
Well there is Margarito, Williams, prime Cotto and Pac but Floyd took a 'retirement' while those guys were on the prowl.
yep. floyd has plenty of rivals. its just that he ducks them all
floyd does'nt have fighter of the decade .....:boxing:
LOL. That is also one of the major difference between floyd and other atg's that makes floyd so jealous. nyahahhhaa

Hindsight is always 20/20.
look at your list. All those guys fight with no pussy ass excuses.
Floyds new nemesis is Pac. hes jus too scared for his life to fight him.
JMM was the past. On to the next one.

I see exactly what you mean. Floyd will never get his credit. All the people that came in and discredited him were Pac's fans. He did have a rival in Castillo but he won the second fight in a convincing fashion. He wanted more money than what he was offered to fight Margarito, Shane didn't want him in his prime, Cotto's Team did not think Cotto was ready at 140lbs. Why are people forgetting when Floyd use to say after every fight that he wanted to fight the best. Then when he got in the driver's seat, away from Arum, he's a ducker. Mayweather is physically gifted and his only competition would have been the fighters of the past.

Yup, good post. You forgot prime Mosley.

There's nothing to duck in Margarito and Cotto or nothing to make a rivalry out of those two. If anything Margarito and Cotto is a good rivalry but Cotto doesn't even want to avenge his loss, instead lost to Pacquiao.
Mayweather-Mosley is the rivalry that should have happened if Mosley decided to take Floyd's first call out back in 2005.
That said, how many Welters outside of Mosley has Floyd fought?
And I mean legitimate Welters...
Mayweather no doubt is a skilled fighter but the only thing he lacks are big cajones to fight worthy opponents. If only he fought Cotto, Margarito, and Paul Williams and beat them... for sure nobody will talk shit about him.
then there it is...he found ways to NOT develop a rival...congratulations

I would have like to see Floyd fight Kostya Tszyu or Joel Casamayor-Im not saying they would have won or lost but they had styles that would have given Floyd a real challenge.
its hard to develop rivalries when you run to retirement right when the division gets hot
Right when the division gets hot with Top Rank fighters? Cotto and Margarito are far from hot atm. They lost to lesser fighters than Mayweather skill-wise. There was nothing to duck there.
what Floyd Mayweaher doesn't have that most ATG had or has is brain damage, slurred speech patterns, and a broke bank account. He hasn't had another Diego Corrales in awhile, remember Corrales was a high betting favorite in that fight
The Corrales fight was an EVEN money fight...Corrales was not a high betting favorite in that fight although as fight time grew closer alot of really respectable fight scribes were picking Diego despite the turmoil he was going through.
Well there is Margarito, Williams, prime Cotto and Pac but Floyd took a 'retirement' while those guys were on the prowl.
Lol "prime" Cotto. He's only 29 and has 2 losses. He just sucks, he's not past prime.

Like your boy Pacquaio. Fought diaz at 135 and no one else?
Fought hatton at 140 but no bradley, and the rest of the good fighters at 140?
Like fighting cotto who was destroyed by margarito, but not mayweather or mosley at 147?

I agree 100%.
One would say it should have been Mosley but Mosley didn't want to fight him back in the day. Then you have Cotto but Cotto is from Top Rank and plus he has not look so good vs top opposition so imagine how he would look against Mayweather.
