In the recent fight with Paul Williams, do you believe Kermit Cintron was forced out of the ring accidentally by momentum and inertia or did he intentionally dive out of the ring by his own choice?
Here's the round 4 clip and slo-mo replay from HBO's official YouTube page >
You can watch the HD version by clicking 360p and choosing 720p >
The 4th? I thought he landed some good shots in that round. It seemed to me as if he was beginning to open up.
the round lasted 35 seconds and according to compubox William landed 4 punches in the round and cintron 4. I dont know what round you were looking at because in the 4th round William did not land anything.
Cintron landed at
2:48
2:43
2:29
Williams landed at
2:44
2:46
2 punches on the back 2:41
The decision in favor of Williams is highly debatable imo. There is a strong case for Cintron being ahead in the fight at that point. Whether he would have won the fight if it had continued as normal is again a debatable issue because Williams appeared to be pressing the action in the 4th, although Cintron also landed some excellent counters. It's a shame it didn't continue man, it was just getting interesting.
I agree the ring exit appears most likely to be entirely accidental, what about the aftermath? Do you think Cintron was genuinely injured, stunned or winded? Or, you think he was over-dramatizing the situation?
I think at first when he first made impact not with the table but with the floor he was indeed winded, he had no way of slowing down his fall he just went with the momentum. after though the doctor is holding him down and telling him it can probably be a spinal injury. think about it like this, if you explain what you feel to a doctor after such an awkward fall and he says to stay still because what you may have might be a spinal injury which common sense tells you can paralyze you wouldn't you stay still? I think he recovered while on the floor but was told to stay down, I can believe he lost his wind by the fall but they didn't let him get up, even Paul Williams said he heard Cintron asking to continue while on the floor
Exactly man and that shit pisses me off because Kermit is a good fighter, seriously man people don't give him enough credit for his fight game but there is a reason why HBO doesn't want this fight and that's because it'll f*ck their stock and investments not because it wouldn't sell, it sure as shit makes more sense then buying Juarez-John II. I been knowing about Kermit Cintron since before the brick layer got to him man it's a real shame he wont get a chance to prove himself in a rematch
yeah hbo saw the risk in only those three rounds, the question is who will fight pwill now? it should be cintron or martinez.
cosign, this is why i said earlier that hbo doesnt want another right hand from cintron to land on pwill's chin. not cuz cintron would beat him but cuz the rematch obviously aint happening cuz hbo and al haymon dont want the risk. watch hbo continue with the "most feared man in boxing" bullshit

It was only the fourth round and looked like it was about to pick up.
But either I don't understand if anyone really though he did it on purpose. Like he'd risk breaking his neck or ribs but tossing himself outta the ring. He already landed on Williams a few times.
Exactly..Why throw a fight your winning especially when your hurting your opponent..
clearly an accident, he was already highly off balance when he took that 2nd step, he was even leaning a bit forward before fully taking that 2nd step. honestly Paul ain't little if he swings you like that you gonna move and possibly lose balance, it clearly happened to Kermit. you know whats funny, Paul Williams Adviser Al Haymon is in HBO's back pocket, this fight ends and lets say Kermit won, do you think they will be saying that HBO wont buy the rematch? NOPE they would sell that shit but since he won and had a hard time doing his adviser doesn't support a rematch and HBO doesn't buy the event, these men aren't stupid they making him out to be like the next Tommy Hearns you really think they want to risk losing the spot light on Williams over Cintron? Williams just says "yes" to everything his people tell him so I don't expect him to know anything nor do I suspect him of any foul play but his people? they some slick match making motherf*ckers..
was it an accident? my answer is yes, that's my opinion so ima stick with that but I also think it's bullshit that Kermit boxes his socks off for 3 rounds they give the majority of to Williams when he wasn't nearly as damaging to his opponent and then rejects talks of a rematch like nobody knows who and what Al Haymon is to HBO. the rematch of this fight made more sense then the first fight ever happening in the beginning because he we saw Cintron take a shitty loss after a awesome performance and is being denied a rematch and to me that is foul especially when Kermit said he would do it at 154 or even 147 which is something no one else will want to do and that's face him at 147
All this....
In any event PW was getting it put on him so maybe he did that tie up intentionally...
jk..
he pulled a bitch move. He was clearly looking for a way out of that fight and had his opprutunity to jump out the ring. the dude didn't even hit his head.:rofl:
He purposely jumped out of the ring to end that boring farce of a fight.

I think watching it in slo-motion is what throws people off.
In real time, shit happened fast and Cintron was off balance with all kinds of momentum heading towards the ropes. Who knows if even had time to react, but that "leap" could have happened just trying to deal with the ropes and the fact he's flying out the ring. By jumping maybe he was able to position himself in an angle that helped him fly out the ring better without getting that much damage (which is what seemed to happen).
In slo-mo, because it's simply happening slower, it can appear that he had all the time in the world to decide to jump out of the ring.
It was an accident. The real argument is whether he faked the severity of his injury (or getting the wind knocked out of him) or the doctor forced him down and didn't let him get back up.
To me, given his shaky bizzaro past, Cintron acted his way out of the fight possibly because he thought he was ahead on the cards and would win and/or thought that there might be a rematch and thus get another payday. The doctor not letting him continue would mean, IMO, that he didn't want to risk an injured fighter back in the ring in fear of a lawsuit/damage to his rep or that he was somehow on Williams' side (real conspiracy, if you ask me, but this is boxing). Or, the doctor is telling the truth and he asked Cintron twice if he could continue and Cintron gave him indication that he couldn't. That sounds more realistic, I think.
But it seems that Cintron laid there like he was dead, complained about being hurt, and then started arguing that he could continue... once he was on the stretcher... a little too late.
Well so far most people think it was accidental, including me, but the only thing I care about in this fight was the lame ass decision.
Cintron should have won that, or at least have the decision changed to a no decision.
To me Paul Williams is like Christian Mijares, he will keep getting Split Decisions, and will biasedly be ranked high in the P4P rankings until some armenian fighter comes and breaks his balls.
Then he will start losing to unknown venezuelans.
nobody won this fight imo, it needs to happen again. how can either guy have possibly won that fight after only 3 rounds? its more pathetic that there isnt a rematch being made at this point.
And to make matters worse on this forum they are calling this fight a robbery when they both landed practcally the same amount of punches and each judge had Cintron and Williams winning every round. People see different things. Deal with it.

It's an interesting angle I think, the first thought I had from watching the clip is that the real-time event happened so fast that Cintron wouldn't have had the time to mastermind a dive out the ring. From the new angle, it seems as if Cintron expected to rebound off the ropes but the rope his shoulder should have caught, instead flicked upwards and created the space for him to fall out the ring. It seemed to happen too quickly and was too unpredictable for Cintron to anticipate or plan.
Whether he exaggerated the severity of his injuries is still a tough call imo. He has a history of unusual behavior in the ring which doesn't help his case. But, assuming the fall was unplanned, it's still a genuine possibility that he could've been momentarily injured or stunned.
Another angle showed that Cintron didn't hit his head, but his neck on the edge of the ring. But I agree with you Cintron has had a history of unusual behavior in the ring and it doesn't help his case.
he wasn't acting like he was hurt. he got the wind knocked out of him.
the wind probably got knocked out of him, but the doc said he didn't want to fight.
Watching the replay over and over, I can clearly see that he didn't even hit his head that hard at all. Doesn't matter if he accidentally or purposely dove out the ring. Fact is, he over exaggerated the extent of how hurt he was, if hurt at all. Just watch the video.
He wanted to continue fighting. Even PWill said that he heard Cintron pleading with the dr to let him continue fighting.
