Coincidentally Gatti(I think), Judah, Baldomir, Hatton, DLH, Marquez & Mosley had there all time high PPV numbers with Mayweather. And you know who else will have his biggest PPV buys with Mayweather? Manny Pacquiao.
Yet I see threads trying to discredit Mayweather's number's against Shane Mosley, when not even Prime DLH topped 1Mill PPV buys vs Mosley in neither fight.
Black fighters in the lower weights are not PPV draws. Mayweather is special, that's why he is a draw. You can't name one African American fighter in the lower weights that has impacted like Floyd has. Tyson and Holyfield were around when HW was the best division.
Not even Hopkins or Jones were ever PPV draws. It's hard as hell for a lack fighter to be a draw, let alone a former Super Featherweight. To bring in an estimated 800k+ PPV draws when you add up Judah+Baldomir...That's more than decent.
As far as black fighters in the lower weights, don't know why they did not get the attention like Mayweathe. Maybe Mayweather was brought up right by his promoters and manager in the boxing world.
Its like this, you have A fighter bringing his fans to buy his fight, then you have B fighter bringing his fans. One fighter might have more fans but if you bring them together, then you have more PPV's sells. Then you have the neutral fans, not a fan of both fighters. The neutrals fans will see 2 top fighters fighting each other and will buy the ticket. That will add more PPV's sells.
Comparing also the other fighters(black or not) before the 90's and early 2000, you have to remember also the technology of today help promote the current fights.
If you believed Mayweather is the sole reason for the high PPV's, then that is your opinion. But my opinion is it takes 2 to tango. If Mayweather was fighting Nate Campbell, Malinangi, or Matthew Hatton(as previousl reported before of a Mosley fight), i would not buy that crap. If it was Paul Williams or Sergio Martinez, even if they are not that popular, then yes, i would definitley buy it. Because it is a good match up.
Good night, got work tommorow. Happy postings.

Baldomir also had his lowest PPV number against Floyd, since it was the only one he ever headlined on.
All the money Floyd has couldn't buy him the Fighter Of The Decade award.
RJJ is my favorite fighter of all time and in his prime was 10x more exciting than Mayweather's prime. But fact is, Jones was never a big draw.

And how come Judah and Baldomir fights did not get a million PPV's? Judah might not be a superstar but he was known already. And Baldomir was getting descent coverage because of a "cinderalla story".
When the fight was in the talks, the media and fans were already calling the Pac-Oscar fight a circus. In this forum alone, a lot of fans are saying they would not get the fight. Some media call it a desperaiton move by Oscar, picking on a smaller fighter. And you know what happen in the economy in 2008?
If you look at it, it was only when they fought Oscar that they started getting their big paydays.

Kev do you know what is the PPV record for lightweight and below?
Jrosales13 vs Tunney, it happened at 130. Great match, Jro won but I thought it was a draw.
:lol1:
How come Marquez only sold 400k with Pacquiao? and if your answer is "Becuzs P@C wasz not a PpV Dr@w @t dat tiMe" Then how come DLH only sold 1.2Mill with Pacquiao?

Your acting like Judah and Baldomir attracted a million PPV's.
Mayweather might have attracted more fans to buy the PPV's but when his fighting an opponent, like JMM, who has a large following of Mexican heritage in the US. Add them together and what you get, lots of PPV's sold.
Just look at the 2nd largest PPV, Tyson-Holyfield, both names attracted fans to buy the fight. Another example is Dela Hoya-Trinidad.

Floyd will also have his highest ppv # with Manny.
It's highly possible, but it's not a given. We don't know if it just falls short of 2.4Mill by a couple of 100k buys. 2.1-2.2Mill, then again it can surpass it. But nothing is promised. The things look now with Team Pacquiao wanting only the State Commission drug testing, and Floyd staying firm on OST. Looks like Floyd's highest PPV fight will stay at 2.4Mill at this pace.

The great thing about Floyd and PPV is his ability to get non fans to buy. I would guess that a decent percentage of non boxing fans who purchase the event just want to see him get KOd. Pac is pretty popular now though so I wouldnt say Floyd was a superior draw. Both of them together is where the PPV gets its appeal.
So it's just a coincidence that non-PPV fighters get their first PPVs with Mayweather, and so called PPV draws do ridiculous numbers that they have never been close to before...when they fight Mayweather. It's just a coincidence, nothing to see here. Nothing special, it could have happened with any other boxer right?

Gatti was shown on regular HBO.
Yes, they did have their highest PPV. But you guys are acting like its because of Mayweather ONLY that they have the highest PPV. Dela Hoya have a huge following. Hatton was getting alot of coverage here in the US. JMM have a his Mexicans heritage following in the US. Mosley has been known around the boxing world for almost 18 years.
Let say a Mayweather-Pacquiao happens and it became the most PPV seller of all time. So Pac has nothing to do with it. Pac attracted 1 million something against Cotto. 700,000 against Clottey, Clottey might be known but not in mainstream America. I know people(non-Filipinos) who bought the Pac-Clottey fight but have no idea who is Clottey. They only found out after reading from newpapers and internet.
It takes 2 to tango, not one.
BTW I didn't know exactly what you meant by this. You mean Gatti was always shown on regular HBO before his PPV fight with Mayweather. Because at 35 years old, you should have been around to remember that Gatti-Mayweather was HBO PPV. I hope you didn't mean to say Gatti-Mayweather was on WCB.
