Here's something for Boxing historians.
Dave Camarillo, Couture's current grappling coach, earned his certification of Catch Wrestling from Gene Lebell.
Way back in the 50's, Gene took on a boxer by the name of Milo Savage in a Judo vs. Boxing match.

it's funny that the supposed mma tough guys are afraid to stand up with 40 year old clinically obese punch drunk ex middleweights
Wrestlers/Ju Jitsu fighter don't stand with any strikers period. Thats the stratagy that everyone uses so why in the fuk would anyone forget that stratagy just for james Tony.
mma where shot past prime reject athletes of different sports come to be great.
:lol1:
Name one of these past their prime athlete's that has made it big in MMA?
Yea, man, I would love to hear any beefs or critiquing...
Here is the thread I made. I said afterwards that I shouldve added guys like Sergio, Bradley, Alexander, and so on but Williams was fighting last week and he's the biggest guy that everyone is high on so I thought I would use him as the center piece. Looking back its probably good that they didnt watch because the fight ended up being a joke. I also do want to see Pac-Floyd more now as time has passed but I still dont think our media guys are selling the sport itself enough. I think we are perpetrating all the Pac-Floyd stuff like that is all we have.
I heard you talk about the Super 6 on there but there are still other good fights that Pac & Floyd can make that would be really exciting. I know you are going to probably say that you didnt mean it that way but thats how it comes off to the mainstream public sometimes, including alot of those guys at ESPN who act like they know stuff but are clearly just casual boxing fans. Here's what I wrote

Yo John, you my man & all but I made a thread after the Floyd-Mosley fight about how I was a little dissapointed in alot of the boxing media and you were one of the guys I mentioned. Ill speak about it if you want to

Hey Iceman, if you're interested and you have some change lying around, the Sh1ne promotion is putting on it's first PPV this Saturday. They've got a good MMA card with the headline match being between Ricardo Mayorga and Din Thomas.

lol cant wait till an "old, fat, out of prime" toney whoops the ass off couture, my prediction is about 15-30 seconds into round one toney will persuade randys jaw to try to kiss itself in the back of the head.
what people dont seem to realise is that even a james toney that is past him prime and arguably over weight is still about 2 or 3 leauges a better fighter than the mma chumps. for the first time in ufc history the audience is going to see how to properly fight.
Without lower body movement and inflexibility.
I've never really watched MMA...but people who do tell me Randy has a good stand up game? I would have to SERIOUSLY doubt he wil try that for more than a few seconds though...right?
While Randy has trained with some real notable strikers (Bas Rutten, Ray Sefo), his striking is pretty sub par in of itself. It's great against other sub par efforts, but if he's up against someone who has more advanced striking and make it work in the context of MMA, nine out of ten times, he's going to get shut down. His fight with Antonio Rodrigo Nogueria is a good example. He lost that match by getting totally outboxed by Nog to a unanimous decision.

The positive in his striking is that he's adopted a dirty boxing approach which is very comfortable to him. It allows him to find ways to get as close as possible to his opponent and fluidly switch between striking and grappling at will.
Couture is a master strategist, that's what makes him a name. His Olympic grappling and ability to stick or adapt to a game plan.
Will he strike with Toney? No, not really. If I were to take a guess, the game plan will probably be Randy herding Toney to the edges while getting him to keep his arms up. Once Toney's at a comfortable distance, Randy will pin him to the cage and toss him down to the mat. Depending what Randy feels like, he'll either ground and pound Toney or grind him up for three rounds and make Toney burn out.
It doesn't help matters either with Toney training with Juanito Ibarra, a man who has little grappling experience.

How is it not?
Jones and Hopkins are both old and washed up (though you could make an argument for Hopkins
-They are both future Hall of Famers
-The fight was $50
-The fight was stupid and pointless, it sucked in 1993 and guess what? 17 years wasn't going to change that.
And you forgot one thing THEY ARE BOTH BOXERS. The fight was all those things, but it was between boxers.
Either way, while the fight with Randy and Toney may be stupid but it will sell and Toney will get a decent pay day for his first MMA fight and he'll be taken seriously. While you and most of the boxing world are basically shunning him away.
Thats all I need to know... Yes it very Stupid that a Old, fat, past Prime, BOXER is getting a PPV Match in his First MMA fight against one of its Legends.
No one in their right mind thought that dumbass match would sell either... dont know whats your point, The two fights are not similar at all.

Pay for it? LOL... When a washed up, overweight, old athlete can come In on his First match Ever and get on PPV and fight one of its (MMA) legends, that tells you everything about this match and the sport as of now.
Shitting on one of your Hall of Famers? Low, man. Low
