Is public outcry determining who's better?

you almost fooled me with your thread title as i thought you're one unbias poster. as you said hoopla or hype...you don't base your opinions on those kind of things. so what if there's a hype for floyd to fight williams or martinez and there's none for pac? hype is hype...it's irrelevant unless it actually happens. there's nothing to gloat about hype...it's stupid. I'm biased as to who I like as a fighter. I happen to think Floyd is the best fighting right now. I also want the other greats in the game to do the same. I've been on this board a couple years and I've seen them all come and go. I've seen the "Gatti will murder him", the "Hatton will walk right thru him", the "Nobody will fight Margarito...stop running Floyd", the "Cotto's too much for Floyd", the "Finally a real welterweight, Shane is gonna knock him out, now I'm hearing the Paul and Sergio drums beating. It's all hype, yet it's all warranted. If these are the guys that the fans want to get behind and root for against Floyd, I'm all for it. But don't lump all these fighters on Floyd, while Manny prances around fighting retreads from Arum's stable.....

People may not like what I am about to say but IMO it is true. PBF was expected to be good and possibly great in boxing. He was expected to win the gold in the olympics add to that his family name with boxing and whether fair or not certain things were expected of him. Looking back at it I think those expectations were fair. Manny came out of no where. He didn't have a name wasn't expected to get on or compete on the Philipine olympic team if they even have one. Manny wasn't even expected have the career he has had. So with no expectations what Manny has done is going to get more praise because it is more of a rags to riches story. That also means that what he is doing will be blown out of proportion. Like the saying goes "To whom much is given much is expected" and PBF falls under that category. So in order for a person in the position of PBF to ever live up what was expected of him he would have to do some very special things damn near impossible. I am a very big PBF fan and admit that he has left some things to be desired of his career but I also know that he has done some great things as well. IMO yes you can criticize PBF but at the sametime PBF get more hate and criticizism than he deserves. So more is expected of PBF from the people in boxing and the casual fan than is expected of Manny and thats just the way shit is going to be regardless of it is right or wrong. So you're saying Floyd's pedigree forces these expectations on him, yet Manny being showered with Fighter of the Decade accolades doesn't? I don't see how two guys fighting at the same weight, both are proclaimed as the best in the world, yet are expected to perform against different caliber of opponents just because he came from a fighting family or because he said he was great?? That's weird logic. If people see Williams as #3 pound for pound and a viable threat at welterweight, his name should be mentioned as a possible opponent for BOTH men, not just Floyd. Check the first page of NSB. Count how many "Sergio willing to take the test to fight Floyd" type threads you see, but all we see about Manny is a tentative fight with the winner of Cotto-Foreman or Margarito. Seems like people know it would take someone with obscene advantages over Floyd to get that elusive "0" off his record.

I don't recall much hoopla about Manny facing Paul Williams or Sergio Martinez, just retreads like Cotto or Margarito. It's almost like people subconsciously want Floyd to fight guys with greater physical advantages in hopes of seeing him lose, but don't expect the same out of Manny. Manny is a full fledge welterweight now. that goes to show u that even the haterz subconsciously knows Floyd is better of the 2 Grater of the two LOL...that's why Floyd will crying when Manny walk up to recieve his Fighter Of The Decade award in June.

I've never heard anyone, on this board or in real life convo, mention Paul Williams for Manny. Yet, these past two weekends all I've been hearing is how Paul Williams was fighting for the Floyd Mayweather sweepstakes. By fans and HBO brass alike. Yet, no one is mentioning Manny's name.....and he's supposed to be the pound for pound king.

Don't base this shit on what you read on NSB. Boxing fans in general want the best to fight the best, simple as that.
