Thats sucks. Floyd is supposed to be the biggest draw. Mosley has had NUMEROUS PPV outings. I mean, this fight was promoted as the biggest fight the last couple of years. It was promoted as the biggest fight of the decade. A super SUPER fight. Schaefer said that this fight was the most heavily promoted fight in the history of Golden Boy. They were utilizing avenues which never had been used before to sell the fight. Not only that, Mosley and May are American fighters. 1.2 Millions is still great for boxing, but I have to admit. It does kind of worry me a little because this fight should have done much more than that. How many buys would it have done is Mosley never would have stepped into that ring to confront Floyd?
You can try to compare those numbers to Pac/Clottey, but lets be real. That fight didn't even have a 24/7. Only had 2 months of half ass promotion. Clottey doesn't even have a fan base. Yet it still managed to do 700K. If a comparison is going to be done, it has to be to Pac/Cotto. 1.5 million PPV buys. Pac/Cotto did 1.5 millions buys even though:
Floyd said Cotto was not a PPV attraction
The 24/7 was "boring"
2 non American fighters
After Mayweather/Pacquiao, we will not have any superfights for a very long time. Its going to be a very unsure time for Boxing. HBO needs to carefully use its budget to promote new fighters.
I think the 1.4 mil ppv buys for the Floyd-Mosley are not true. The real numbers could be lower than that.So if the Mayweather-Mosley numbers were not true...then Pac-Clottey really did 400k with the help of an exotic stadium and Mayweather-Mosley still did 1.1 million.
And let look at HBO, HBO is a public trading company and their numbers are lower than said according to you, imagine how much lower UFC's(private company) numbers are?
I dont believe that, mayb they included the theater ticket sales just like what they did Floyd-Marquez.They had 400 theaters showing Mayweather-Mosley.
There were not 100 people in any one of those theaters. But lets say 100 people payed per view in EACH theater.
100 x 400= 40,000.
Cool, the theaters added 40,000 PPV's if they even got added as PPV's.

no they didnt include it theatre ticket sales can only be included in revenue NOT ppv numbers, infact theatre ticket sells surely bring down ppv numbers.

Yea, whatever. As I said, I don't really like arguing about PPV numbers. Believe what you will, but as me for, I'll go with facts.
they don't include individual ticket sales, but they do count every movie theater that hosted the fight, as a separate buy, just like they do bars & restaurants.
oh yea, i've had forgotten about the fight being showned in the theater, that can also boost up the PPV sales.

I don't even like arguing about PPV numbers, but what do you mean the real numbers?

The only reason it did less than Pac/Cotto is because both fighters have big fan bases (Pac with the filipinos and Cotto with the boricuas on the island + the ones in the states).
Mosley has never had a big following of fans in his career, That's not the case for Floyd, he has a big following which is why his PPV fights reach big numbers.
If Floyd had fought Cotto in 2007 it could've reached 1.8-2.0 million in PPV numbers, same can be said for Pac.
This isn't news but, Mayweather vs Mosley did more than Pac-Cotto.

Puerto Rico is owned by the USA
/thread
Yes, Puerto Rico is a commonwealth of the USA, but it doesn't change the fact that it is still a separate and different state and entity from the United States. That's why they still has their own flag, that's why they're able to compete in the Olympics separately and even against the United States. In other words it is still a foreign land, culture, and people. Nice try.
So Flomos are bragging that Floyd vs Mosley who are both Americans did 275k more than Manny vs Floyd, both foreigners, in America. Wow, that's just fvcking unbelievable, not the ppv difference, but the logic or lack of it from Flomos. And who the fvck is saying that Cotto is a bigger draw than Mosley, you have to be sooo retarded to even think that. Especially after Mosley destroyed Margarito, don't you guys think that Mosley's popularity and stardome shot way up after that night, and especially that he's going to fight Gayweather who we all know avoided Margarito. C'mon Flomos, use some common sense. But let us face facts, the fact is, Floyd is the bigger draw, no doubt about it, and he should be considering he is AMerican and he is more controversial and definitely is more charming and appealing to the American public, those are facts. That being said, no fvcking way that Floyd should get more than 50/50, and the same goes with Manny, period.
Not to push specifics but as mentioned earlier in the ESPN article, Pacquiao vs Cotto did 1.25M while Mayweather vs Mosley did 1.4M. Take out the calculator on that and the difference is even less, at 150K.
