De La Hoya, although he lost a few of these, at least fought:
Prime undefeated Trinidad
Prime undefeated Mosley
Prime undefeated Felix Sturm
Still in his 30s and reigning MW champ Bernard Hopkins
Prime undefeated Ike Quartey
Undefeated Genaro Hernandez
2001 Arturo Gatti who had at least 4 more years in the tank
1-loss Fernando Vargas
Prime undefeated Mayweather
And finally prime Manny Pacquiao
Chavez, Whitaker, Camacho are the only fighters I can think of De La Hoya fought past their prime. So how can anyone say that Khan is going to follow DLH's footsteps by fighting past their prime fighters with a straight face? Like spitting on DLH's resume with all those prime elite fighters he fought.
they downplay DLH's greatness because of his losses to some great fighters, and they have the right to be. but he didnt lose all of them, has an olympic gold medal and has gotten what nobody has gotten in the sport of boxing.
Hoya made his name beating these faded guys, maybe Khan wants to do similar
I thought he was already famous for winning the Olympic Gold Medals and having that background story of his mother dying and all that. I remember when I was a little kid reading Sports Illustrated For Kids in my school and Oscar hadn't even fought Chavez or anyone that notable and was already popular as an up and coming fighter.
He had to fight Chavez, Whitaker and Camacho because they were in front of him and they were the names being mentioned he should prove himself against. Khan on the other hand is blatantly saying he wants to fight the best fighters, when they're not at their best anymore.
its really ignorant to talk bad about DLH's resume. He fought almost every big name of his generation. And most were prime undefeated fighters, and he always put on a great competitive fight, well except with Pacquiao. but he deffinately deserves respect for the competition he has faced
i agree it's stupid DLH, besides having a pretty face and a nosejob( he did one just like mosley), was a hell of a fighter and one of the few modern fighters who fought the BEST, in their PRIME and WEIGHT.
He backed down from no challenger and was a true competitor. That's why even if i don't like his personnality, he's one of my favourite fighters.
