Miles ahead and never to be caught up with.MMA could never duplicate kind of the publicity and pre fight hype that this fight brought. This fight, along with a few others over the last three years brought back the social gathering feel that boxing had back in the 1980's.
MMA simply can't compare with that. The only time you ever see MMA in the mainstream news is when one of it's apologists sit down and explain why it's such a safe sport and how it's taking over boxing.
MMA has reached it's peak and the college kids are all moving on and growing up now.
Honestly, when I first heard about UFC, I thought it sounded cool. I thought it would be kick boxing and martial arts mixed together. But after watching it, I was so unimpressed. The upright fighting sucks and I don't like wrestling. Now if you are a UFC fan, that is fine by me...people can like whatever they want.
UFC has the worst casual fans though. A lot of people just watch it because they think one guy is going to get his head cracked open. And even though UFC states they they aren't barbaric, the truth is they advertise themselves that way.
Anyway, do I think UFC will still be around 10 years from now? Yes, but the audience is going to get much smaller. I think the majority of its fans like the way its promoted more than they like the fighting. That's not to say all UFC fans are like that. I'm sure a lot of UFC fans appreciate the fighting as a sport.
I do have a lot of respect for UFC fighters though. I've got no reason to hate on someone who dedicates themselves to something they love.
I used to be a BIG UFC fan back in the days when Severn, Tank Abbot, Gracie and Shamrock was there.
I liek a few of the new blood but its a slow process. I like GSP, Silva, Lesnar and Kimbo.
Hopefully the card tonight impresses me.
I Know that Brock has skills and was an NCCA Champ...and I know GSP is one of the top wrestlers and overall stars in MMA...
but in terms of drawing power, Brock Lesnar's fame from WWE is what made UFC 100 so popular
I can't argue with that, but you can't deny that he has legitimate athletic credentials. Some people tend to forget or don't even credit him for that. They just see him as someone who went straight from WWE to the UFC with no background in sports or martial arts.
Henderson had OK pull, but the CBS card with Strikeforce had lower ratings than Law and Order re-runs, so his drawing power ain't that much...
Well that's because SF/Showtime aren't mainstream and aren't as in tune with the casual fans as the UFC is.
Plus Hendo/Bisping had The Ultimate Fighter behind it hyping up the fight, which helped a great deal in the pull for that fight because the casual fans love The Ultimate Fighter Reality Show, even though it has become straight up trash and is played out.
I like watchin both...
No point being a fanboy of either just to say who does what better. If you like MMA, cool. If you don't, just focus on Boxing.
I don't like Nascar, but I don't compare it to NBA and say, "Haaa!!! NBA gets more coverage".
Boxing is the greatest sport in the world but TS is a dumb fukk. The hype and promotion of the fights is shit in boxing. Gorilla's vidoes are better than anything i've seen in HBO, GBP or Top Rank.
The Hype in MMA is just outstanding especially in Japan.
Disagree.
A huge gripe I have with UFC/MMA is that they don't let rivalries simmer enough, just like what happened with Mayweather-Mosley and is happening now with Mayweather-Pacquiao.
They give us the fights we want I guess, but they promote it as some kind of must no miss event, instead of there actually being some bad blood between the fighters.
They fight, and then nobody really cares afterwards. It seems platonic in some ways.
I guess that's one thing I will go credit to UFC for. They give the people what they want.
Every Boxing fan wanted Trindidad-Mosley to happen, and it was just never meant to be. That would never happen in the UFC.

Also there is a good chance that UFC/MMA will survive in 10 years.
They draw the WWE crowd, which is damn near probably the biggest Sports fanbase in the USA. What kid at some point didn't watch professional wrestling?
Yeah because Bob Arum is such a truthful person. Everyone knows he hates MMA .
Of course Ali and Tyson are going to be attending a BOXING event. What are you retarded?
And lol @ Paris Hilton being an A-Lister.
Everyone knows Boxing is going to outdraw MMA more often. The sport has been around establishing itself for over 100 year. MMA hasn't even been around 1/4 of that amount of time.
If I were boxing I'd be a little embarrassed that boxing supposed biggest draw, was only able to draw 1.2-1.5, which isn't much more than the UFC's highest
selling PPV.
i rather see 2 people punching then two people rubing each other on the ground. there some fighters that are fun to watch (silva,bj,guida, chuck, rampage, hardy, machida) thats b/c they stand and box and some dont mind getting knocked out. and they cant even last 36min like in boxing. and there boxing skill are lacking.
best two are silva and bj.
Didn't UFC 100 or something sell 2mill ppv?
The UFC numbers said 1.5 million, but the real numbers are sure to be lower.
UFC likes to put out an illusion that they are doing better than they really are. If its here and still doing relatively as well as it is in 10 years, then I will admit that is it here to stay, but odds are its just a fad.
Their biggest draw is Brock Lesnar.
Lets not act like NCAA Champion Brock Lesnar wasn't the driving force...:grumble:
Fixed and GSP is also one of the UFC's biggest draws and Hendo/Bitchping had some pull as well.
Yeah because Bob Arum is such a truthful person. Everyone knows he hates MMA.
He's alot closer to the ppv industry than you are.
So is Richard Schaefer
“I am willing to hire one of the top three accounting firms, at my expense, and do an audit of his pay-per-view results. They are nowhere near what is put into the public. There is talk that UFC 100 did 1.6 million, but it barely broke a million. I am willing to pay to have the audits done to prove this.”
Here is Dana White's response
“Do you think I’m (expletive) crazy?”
which isn't much more than the UFC's highest
selling PPV.
How would you know? The ufc doesn't release it's real ppv numbers.
Well obviously that's not the case with most people even MMA fans, since Mayweather vs. Marquez did better numbers on the same night as UFC 103.
UFC 103 was a shitty card. No surprise

Yeah I know. People are so dumb... :O
those are inflated numbers to make their company look better....bob arum said the real numbers were south of 1 million :haha::haha::haha::haha:

mma is a joke of a sport. boxing draws all kinds of A -list celebrities and athletes to their events such as muhammad ali, michael jordan, mike tyson, arnold scwharnegger, paris hilton, etc.
Of course Ali and Tyson are going to be attending a BOXING event. What are you retarded?

i like both but boxing will always be number 1 for me. whats so wrong with liking both? people always diss people that like mma like some childish girls. you dont like it just move on. all kinds of people like both or one or the other. i like all kinds of fighters in both as well and dont root/like a certain person cause of where they are from or skin color.
MMA has the luxury of capturing the White American audience. This is why it does so well. Look at how many great white american boxers there are as opposed to white american MMA fighters. Fact is, people like to support folks that look like them or represent them. Nothing wrong with that. Just like how black americans support Floyd and Filipinos support Manny. Boxings best fighters are mainly minorities, black, hispanic or asian.
