I dont even get why people made a huge deal out of this fight.
The media acting like this is the biggest thing in boxing in years.
Were talking about the self proclaimed best fighter in the world (most of the media agree with Floyd on that) fighting a 38 year old fighter who was beaten by Cotto years ago, looked lousy in his fight with Mayorga until he got the KO, then stopped Margaito which was a good win but Margarito isnt exactly hard to find. Then has over a year layoff with no fights. Its much better than the Marquez win but please.
While this is all true it doesn't contradict any of the points I made. Everybody called for Mayweather to fight a "legit welterweight" and most crowned Mosley as the legit welterweight before the fight. In fact a ridiculous amount of people on this very board were convinced that Floyd would duck Mosley, and many cited him as a better opponent than Pacquiao.
Mayweather not only fought him but almost shut him out completely - while fighting toe to toe!
As for the Ring ratings, I thought Mosley was #1 but i guess not. Still though, Mosley was the man who beat the man (etc.) and had the best claim to welterweight lineage. Out of interest was Pacquiao promoted to #1 after the Cotto fight or the Clottey fight?
pacquiao was rated #1 by THE RING after he whooped cotto (and considering that cotto beat mosley makes pacs beating of cotto that much more impressive)...pac maintained #1 after whooping clottey...the only way there is a undisputed welterweight lineal champ by THE RING standard is if #1 vs #2 or in some cases #3...
so with that said, mosley was #2 and mayweather #3 does not make this fight for undisputed welterweight...it only flip flopped their rankings with mosleys welterweight ranking falling behind cotto
im not gonna say who will win if both pac and mayweather should fight...im just gonna say it should be a great fight...unlike most people here will say one fighter would beat the other easily...which is ridiculous
well, according to THE RING rankings as of lastweek, #1 Pac, #2 Mosley, #3 mayweather...there is no RING champ according the THE RING MAGAZINE
and both cotto and clottey where the more naturally bigger guy than pac...more so than mosley was to mayweather
and mosley is close to 40 yrs with a year and a half layoff at his age is more of a disadvantage....mayweathers had a layoff too, but at his age, its not so much of a disadvantage at a younger age
im not putting mayweather down, just not taking the overhyped wins over aging and overweighted marquez and an old mosley

and the funny thing is...that mayweather sr is still promoting "who, you mean the dirty pacquiao"?
i mean, come on...sr been to jail for doing/dealing drugs...and just recently, roger mayweather looks like he will be going to jail for a while for beating a woman...and just recently as well, floyd jr was involved in connection with a shooting incident...so instead of bringing up pac being dirty without proof, he needs to focus on the problems of his own mayweather clan...problems that are valid, not just made up without proof
it was a good win, but not great,... I mean damn, shane was beat by cotto and stuggled against mayorga, beat an overrated margarito..
truth is, Mayweather beat a dangerous near 40 year old fighter, who aint fought in a year
only chance mosely had was to catch him and when ur near 40 against maybe the best defensive fighter ever, those odds are VERY slim
why people dont see this is beyond me...but still a good win for mayweather, but too highly exagerated of a win for him
i wouldve given mayweather for fighting and beating berto more credit...but thats just me.

not sure why some are talking this Floyd win up, he nearly got ktfo'd ffs, it's only because Mosley was so gassy that he didn't tear into him in the next two rounds
thats what i noticed too...mosley was already tired in the early rounds and by the end of the 5th or 6th round, i heard mosley asking for a cold towel in his corner, "get me a cold towel, get me a cold towel"...MAYBE ALL THE BLOOD DRAWN got to him physically...im not making any excuses, but that could be the case why he looked so tired and weak so quickly...aahhh, and the fact he is almost 40 ;o)
Because of the way Mayweather beat him. Mayweather walked him down and very few expected him to do that. Not only did he walk him down, he dominated him 11 rounds to 1.

- Mosley was the big, powerful welterweight that everyone's been screaming for Mayweather to fight since forever
- Mosley was #1 welterweight and on the back of a demolition job on the formerly "most feared man on the planet"
- Mosley was ranked by most as the 3rd best boxer in the world
- Mosley is a shoo-in for the IBHoF

and how does mosley maintain a high ranking in the P4P and welterweight when he lost to cotto and needed a KO in the final round to cement a garanteed win over mayorga? then a win over a boxer who won the belt from cotto and with suspect wins due to plaster loaded gloves...all those elements to me does not make for such high rankings and praise for mosley
The fight was for the top spot at WW. A lot of people, including me, didn't think PBF would ever fight Shane. He did, he almost got KO'd early, and he rallied to shut him out almost. It was a big win for PBF.
according to the RING MAGAZINE rankings prior to the mosley/mayweather fight, pac held the top spot at welterweight...its only for the belt that mosley won from margarito that shouldve been amended as a non title fight since margarito was suspended

It's funny to see the win being shitted on. What else could he do? Shane is the top guy at welterweight. He would beat probably Berto, Clottey, already destroyed Margarito, and would in my eyes be able to beat Cotto in a rematch. He also beat Collazo. So that's pretty much all of the top welters in the division that Shane could very well beat and if not be in a highly competitive bout.
There was no doubt that he's a top 2 welterweight. People said they wanted to see him against a bigger stronger opponent. He was in there with Shane and completely outclassed Shane. He made him look like a C level fighter and took his heart out of the fight. Yes Shane is old and yes Cotto beat him but that fight was pretty close. This fight was not it was a dominant win.
BTW, im not discreditng mayweathers win, im just saying its being over exagerated...like the best thing since sliced bread

thats true, but considering cotto beat mosley and the fact that pac whooped cotto BIG TIME after cotto beat mosley...and the fact the pac destroyed hatton while mayweather needed almost 12 rounds to finish off hatton...makes me wonder why floyd fans think pac would be an easy fight is beyond me. mayweather may have made mosley like a c fighter, but pac has made cotto and clottey look like c fighters as well...PAC put a big whooping on cotto and clottey more than did mayweather to mosley and marquez, and both being close to 40 yrs old to boot

pacs two wins over cotto and clottey is much more impressive considering pac moved up in weight to fight two naturally bigger guys that are younger and are top 5 welterweight...and mayweather fought a guy that is almost 40 himself and had to move up 2 weight classes to fight him...and the other being almost 40yrs old...and other than beating margarito, havent done anything impressive in years...why people dont get that is beyond me
thats what ive been saying...other than his win over margarito, mosley havent really impressed or done anything in his last several fights that makes him the undisputed welterweight king, and the fact that he had an almost 2 yr layoff at his age...since margarito was banned from boxing, the fight against margarito shouldve been changed as a non title fight with the belt stripped from margarito.
as for the other fight post mayweather retirement, you have to question mayweathers win over an overweight marquez due to his needing to move up 2 weight classes to fight mayweather. and to move up 2 weight classes at marquez's age was another disadvantage.
so with all this said, mayweathers two wins post retirement is highly exagerated...i'll take pacs 2 win over two younger top 5 welterweigjht cotto and clottey over mayweaters 2 win over close to 40 yr old marquez and mosley...and the fact the cotto beat mosley, the same cotto that got knocked down twice and then TKOd by pac...and add the fact that pac beat common opponant hatton much quicker than mayweather did (im not including delahoya because he had to come down in weight, and im not including marquez cuz he had to go up 2 weight classes)
and to those who said pac beat a never the same cotto after margarito beat him up...heres one for you...mosley was never the same after he got drilled twice by vernon forrest and twice by winky wright...thats why after those 4 fights and mosleys age and close to 2 yr layoff, mosley was never the same as well...
floyd was a HUGE favorite to win this fight. the poll on this forum had ppl picking pbf by 75%!!! the betting line at bodog was mosely +450.
great win for floyd, but he was supposed to win and MOST ppl expected it
it's hard to consider it a huge win for Mayweather 'cos of
how horrible Mosley looked. His age and almost a year and
half layoff may have been factors.
Mayweather was great, but you can't deny that Mosley looked
like sh!t. even when he was winning in the first 2 rounds, he
didn't look good. the guy was jittery and gasping for air during
the 2nd round and on.
This is only a big win to the Mayweather fans because he hasn't
been this offensive and aggressive in a long time. What's weird
is that while he looked great doing that, he still didn't throw
combinations at all. What I saw was just an aggressive pot
shooting, but it was great to watch nonetheless cos it's not
his usual boring style.
