This is not a joke thread either. I rewatched some of the fight late last night, early this morning and those 2 shots he landed were better than I thought watching it live but for different reasons. The 1st shot was just a great move. I didnt catch it like that live but he did a great jab to the body and immediatly came over the top with a right hook that landed flush. Floyd actually did this back to him a couple of times as the fight went on.
Watching it back though, that 2nd shot almost decapitated his ass. I didnt know that shit was that hard. No wonder why he buckled him. To me that proves he has a great chin because I think Shane wouldve stopped anyone else with that shot, espically considering how cold he was. Not only that but he came back to look very good in those final 40sec of the round and was back on Shane again at that point but people overlook that part. Great fight though
He did show a good chin and those were two monster shots. But more than chin it shows just how well he keeps his cool, if he would have panic mosley would have been able to follow up on it but he didnt allow mosley to the same way he didnt allow corely to.
I think the only thing that kept him up after he buckled was his insane conditioning, the strong legs and core strength are what kept him from collapsing.
Floyd is gonna be very hard for anyone to stop. You have to consider if he had gone to the canvas he would get his 10 seconds and I think he would take full advantage of that and the way he keeps his focus and blocks a follow up attack will make it hard for even Martinez to stop him.
They were both good shots, I was surprised how well Mayweather took them as it was early in the bout when warming up. But I did find in bizarre that Mosley just then seemed to give up throwing the right hand. Obviously that has something to do with Mayweather countering it and landing all the time, but I would thought Mosley would have stated throwing it again when things were getting desperate from round 9-12.
But amazing performance by Mayweather, I was very impressed by him, and I think he's got a new fan, I'll have to check out more of his fights.
I agree with the above poster.
All credit to mayweather for recovering i suppose. But last week there were threads and posts about shanes power being overrated, not really one punch ko power etc. Now its how mayweathers chin is great for taking a punch from an ("overrated") puncher.
I don't think those were the hardest shots I have ever seen shane throw, he has landed much better and harder against other fighters. They were good punches but pretty standard power punches from shane, the first right hand was a good shot, but to honest shane landed several shots like that against cotto, margarito, vargas, mayorga, and other fighters without that kind of reaction. The second punch was also a solid shot, but was hardly the biggest right hand I have see shane throw, he didn't even really turn his hips into it and get full power.
I was impressed by floyd's recovery his head cleared pretty quickly but I have always felt, having watched the zab fight, the corley fight in particular and now this that if you hit floyd flush on the chin he will get buckled, shane had a small window of opportunity but he smothered his own work and didn't take full advantage but you gotta give floyd credit too because his defences were good and his head cleared quickly.
No one should have any question about Floyd's chin after that second shot. That would drop anyone, and Floyd took it somehow.
The second shot was a killer blow.....it hit him on the temple and snapped his neck to the side.....i have no idea how he didn't go down.....his legs crumpled but somehow his will kept him off the canvas......
It was a hard shot from a hard hitting opponent.
It says that Floyd at the very least has a good chin but he is hit still too infrequently to say how good it is.
yeah and its always very early. What happeneds if someone catches him clean later in the fight? Problem is that it seems impossible to do that after he adjust and if you did land it, he probably takes it better at that stage of the fight then he would when he's a little cold & nervous early
Just finished watching the fight again on skysports and the more you see it the more impress you get, apart from the shots landed in the second round Mosley couldnt or didnt really do anything else, I was more shocked at the 3rd round than anything else...Towards the 9 round it became a sad sight, It was like watching Cotto backpedalling against Pacquiao.
