This question has nothing to do with legacy and who will be remembered for being greater. Because I'm sure lots will vote for Headbuttkins then. This is asking you who you think has the better boxing skills. Not who has the better dirty tactics!
This will obviously go to Bore Hard on a Fat Yank dominated site.
I need to think on this... Hopkins has taught himself some nice skills. And he's a thinking fighter - he definitely uses his head.
I don't think anyone would deny that Calzaghe is the more naturally gifted athelete.
Do you happen to know the nationality of the owner of this website is? Is Boxingscene American owned? This question is for any posters here, thanks.
I guess we will have to agree to disagree on the bolded because imo, Hopkins is far dirtier now than back then.
I also disagree about Hopkins skills not being at their best until around the Tito fight. I personally think Hopkins hit his prime around 97-98.
His prime ended after the Joppy fight in 03 imo.
I think that his finest performance was Tito. Broke him down and took his heart from him. He just wasn't as fast, I didn't say he was past his prime after it I was merely pointing that that was the highest point of his prime. He probably was in his prime to that point but I was pointing out how much more rough he use to be. He was super dirty, now he is more tactical with his dirty style.
Bhop doesn't even know what he says half the time, remember when he said that Miranda would be the fighter to take his throne and shit like that? Then before the Calzaghe fight he kept calling Calzaghe a con man. Yeah, a con man beats Kessler, Lacy(Even American boxers hyped him up), Eubank, Mitchell, Bika, Reid, and Sheika.

Hopkins has better skills than Calzaghe IMHO.
I disagree his tactics were far dirtier when he was young. I remember watching him in an interview and he was sitting there saying I am a champion and I will do anything I have to to win. Headbutt, clinch, low blow, etc. This is a man's sport, you do what you have to to win. It was something along that line. He is a far better boxer now then when he was young. He was a boxer puncher when he was young, but had more of a aggressive brawler style, hence the Executioner. If not he would have been called the Executer. His boxing skills weren't refined till a few fights before Tito. Where he had his finest performance.

One fighter has to be a bit more skillful then the other right? Or do you think its possible for two fighters to be about even in skills? I really don't see the skills in dirty tactics like clinching and headbutting your opponents.
You people blame Hopkins age, yet Hopkins didn't fight dirty against Pavlik!
Hopkins did, but no way near as much as he did against Calzaghe.
Hopkins didn't have to fight dirty against Pavlik because he was too slow to force Hopkins to fight at a faster pace.

i heard this guy learned a lot from hopkins.
HAHAHAHAHA, he faked hurt all the time. I should post the little slap Calzaghe gave him that hit part of his cup then he claimed it was a hard punch! Bhop also did the same thing against Roy!
I vote Hopkins.
Regardless of his dirty tactics (which is something he uses excessively now because of his degraded physical attributes but not so much in his prime), He showed great overall boxing ability.
He could fight coming forward and on the backfoot, off the ropes or on the inside. He was a great body puncher, his jab was very good when he used it as was his left hook and his right hand was a deadly accurate shot especially when he lead with it. His footwork has always been great plus his defense and he also had great stamina in his prime days.
Calzaghe could box as well as come forward, but he tended to simply overwhelm his opponents with pure workrate and speed.

What's your point. Calzaghe still won. Calzaghe clearly beat Hopkins in the end of that fight. Hopkins
Bernard Hopkins has one of the best defenses in the sport. I hate to watch his fights, and im not a fan but maybe thats why. He's a slippery sumna bitch and one of the hardest dudes to get off on. I havent seen hopkins hurt, or even hit cleanly in a while. I seen him loses a boxing match due to the standards of judges, but he never accumulates damage. One of the smartest and best conditioned as well. Respect, Hopkins.. Joe is good tho.
Hopkins has been 1 of the most skilled fighters of the past 20 years.
Despite not having spectacular talent, he's been able to remain top 10 P4P because of his skills and determination well into his 40s.
If you want to compare timing, counterpunching, accuracy, footwork, punching technique, etc. Hopkins has the edge in more categories.

Clearly? Landing less punches is clearly winning? I don't think either fighter deserved a win, in fact if I could I would have given them both a L for there performance. Cal is a fighter that fought everyone after their prime, B-Hop was a far better fighter through out his prime and even after it. Cal would rather retire then fight him again what does that say?

Soapy is clearly the much better technical fighter. He has great boxing skills, nobody can deny that. Slappy, like TheExecutioner said was taught how to fight by a jazzmusician and slaps like a bitch.
He beat Hopkins coz he was the better, fresher athlete and has a hard style to beat: mad workrate, southpaw stance, speed and stamina. But Calslappy's boxing skills are very suspect.
Was there really a winner in that fight? They both looked like garbage. Hopkins is the better overall fighter.

They both hit alot of air. :D But it was alot like the Wright/Hopkins fight.
I vote Hopkins.
