Simple question that requires no Flomo or Pactard responses.......
My opinion....if neither ever faced DLH...neither would be pulling in 1 mil PPV numbers until they meet each other.....
Floyd PROBABLY would've broken the 1 mil PPV buy against Hatton....and Pac more than likely against Cotto....
Which would setup the PPV record breaking fight between these two....
What yall think?
FF79,
I'm giving you recent quotes from the man himself. I'm just going by what Hopkins said... and the rumours that he will bounce from GBP.
I got you...I remember reading those comments...from B-Hop a couple of months ago....
The biggest factor in Mayweather being the superstar that he is ? Floyd Mayweather, Jr.
Floyd has managed his own image. He is not an exciting fighter, but he is telegenic.
He is not an articulate guy, but he isn't shy about talking.
He has taken risks to step outside of the box: WWE, Dancing with the Stars, etc.
He took promotional risks: Buying out of Top rank and becoming a free agent.
Yes. His fight with Oscar was a catalyst. Absolutely. But Floyd put all the other required conditions in place...and nurtured those conditions to ensure his own success.
Those are what you call....Facts....not good points. Green K.
Is Oscar RESPONSIBLE? NO
Is Oscar a contributor? DEFINITELY.
Oscar fought Shane, and Hopkins also. They - like Mayweather - are active African American boxers. Why aren't they superstars?
Is there anyone who watched Delahoya-mayweather and thought to themselves that Mayweather is a "can't miss action fighter"?
Good points.
I agree that DLH made them famous.
Although...........
Mosley beat him twice but his career didn't really blow up.
Chups...see my previous comment....Mosley DID IN FACT BLOW UP.....Partner in GBP?????
I dont know about that fight was pretty damn big, I would say equally as big if not bigger because BOTH were prime and undefeated. That fight had people buzzing man. Only difference is that Back then they did not have as much promotion resources like today(internet, social media, etc.) There were less people with cable, and more black boxes.
On Point with EVERYTHING....especially the "black boxes" comment....I think mines is still in the closet with the foil wrapped around it....

Good Points!
other side of that coin is that neither did Mayweather / Hatton (not counting UK buys for both Floyd and Manny which would then push both to over 1 mil I believe).....and Mayweather / Marquez did 1.05 mil buys....
Wonder if Mayweather / Clottey would even do 700K.....WITHOUT a 24/7?
off topic....much as Floyd fans might not want to admit it...the biggest beneficiary from a DLH win was Shane....his PPV numbers might not be anywhere Floyd or Manny....but he is a GBP PARTNER....can't knock on that....would you rather be the higest paid employee of a company....or one of the Executives whose signature is required for you check? Hmmmmmmmm
even with the Golden Boy effect Pac-Hatton did not break 1M buys, ...

yes he is
but to dig deeper, Bob Arum is the one truly responsible for all their popularity
Arum was the one that built the DLH image
Bob built up DLH....he built up Floyd...and he is currently with Manny...what's the pattern...Bob built them up...they made enough money...and have branched off to be their own boss (save for Manny).....
:hail:....:soapbox: (Bob)
if we go that route technically PAC-Hatton also broke the 1M ppV US+UK...
IMHO after those two mega fights, I mean with ODLH & Hatton back to back for both PBF & PAC, they become even bigger!
Yep...........
