Froch/Kessler was not a great fight, sure the last round was excellent but overall it was not a particularly great fight, not FOTY like Showtime were hyping it, agree?
I agree, TBH.
I had heard what a great fight it was, but I was disappointed. It basically started out as a jab contest until about the fifth round.
The fight had it's moments in the late rounds, but to be fair a lot of the action was sloppy. A lot of wide, looping punches, a lot of missed punches, and both guys left hooks weren't very good.
It was a good fight, but not a great one, IMO.
most of the fight was cautious and tentative, thats a fact.
What!??? Kessler was wilder than ever almost throwing himself carelessly into Froch. Not tentative at all.
TBH I saw all of this mad hype about it and then I got to watch it the next morning and the first few rounds weren't anything but it started to spice up and then the final 2 rounds were very good, so overall I'd say a good fight, but I wouldn't expect FOTY.
here's what i worte after the fight about this:
you know i was thinking while watching it towards the end it might be fight of the year so far, i was trying to think of a better (big) fight since january, and i couldnt. I've a feeling i'm forgetting an obvious one though.
very good fight, but its not a FOTY candidate (I hope), it was sloppy at times. Im hoping there's gonna be at least 5 fights that are better than this by the end of the year.
Well done to both Froch and Kessler, very good fight indeed, and i think its the benchmark to be compared to when other thrillers happen throughout the year.
Hoping we see better though

I agree it wasnt a great fight in the truest sense. But what was great was the anticipataion of who was going to get the upper hand, and the prospect of what might happen, rather than what did actually happen.
For 10 rounds the fight was pretty good, not FOTY stuff or anything but entertaining. If the whole fight was fought like the last 2 rounds of the fight though, it definitely would be a candidate for FOTY. As it is, I think round 11 could be a contender for round of the year.
One of the best fights of this year IMO, i thought it was a FOTY CANDIDATE but not the FOTY.
Apart from the feeling out rounds, I thought they were all really good rounds.
his KO power is there all night he just isnt able to use it until late in the fight. arthur is slow so he cant really get to his oponents early, he does let them wear themselfs out early but more than anything hes studying them. watching their movement patter and looking for defensive flaws, then when hes got his timing down he sets them up for a KO punch.
abraham has more pop than bute, its just that bute is faster and more agile, he gets of much quicker and can land shots early in fights.
i think that sums up the way arthur fights pretty well
I expect a few better fights before the years out but it will defo be one of the more enjoyable fights this year, certainly so far. 2010 has some great match ups though. Good year for boxing, good first half so far at least.
His knockout power comes late into fights most of the time when its against a good/decent fighter. It's like he waits until an opponent wears themselves out a bit then he goes in for the kill. I think Bute has more one-punch knockout power in my opinion.

errr, i dont know about bute having better power than AA man... good power, but not in AA's league, but thats just my opinion
yeah the one punch knockout power is always there with an abraham fight.
AA is the only one in the tourney that will keep you guessing. even when he's way down on the cards, in the back of my mind i say "here it comes....it's coming...this is gonna be brutal...i hope his opponent can get up after this..."
I haven't seen that fight, but it was 'just' a normal 10 rounder. I'm sure you can find lots of better yet obscure undercardfights then. Saying that Kessler-Froch was not a great fight is ridiculous by any standard. People thinking that it's not worthy of FOTY-honours I can live with, but surely it was a great fight.
Still as a fan I take it that it's worth downloading the Escalante fight.
Escalante is a top ranked contender in the world at 122, hardly obscure.
It was not a great fight imo, it was a good fight when you factor in the last round or two, whats ridiculous is calling it GREAT! based on 1-2 rounds, most of the fight was cautious and tentative, thats a fact.
