Steve Bunce to ekstrabladet.dk: "I was right under Froch's corner doing commentary for BBC. Around the 8th or 9th round I heard Froch tell his trainer: He kills me with those bodyshots. He fucking kills me with those bodyshots."
Bunce continues to say: "You could hear the desperation in Froch's voice.
I think kessler knew how important body shots were because even he was hurt by them from pitter patter JC when JC went to the body.
Froch might have a decent enough chin, but his body is untested.
I think that if a bodyshot hits in the right place it doesn't take a super-punch to make it hurt.
As far as Froch's body being untested well... It isn't any more. He took some great shots without wilting although I'm sure he was peeing blood on sunday.
Credit to kesslers team, they really did their home work on Froch, Even I was scared watching those bodyshot land especially with the sound that was coming out. They knew froch had a granite chin and they knew he likes to come on late in fights so they destroy the body, they really deserve credit.
Yeah. The body shots and backing Froch up was the keys to victory. Froch isn't terribly effective going backwards.
Credit Montoya. He wanted bodyshots from the get-go. From the stands you could almost hear the thuds of those vicious straight rights. That was Kessler's moneypunch along with the reinvented left hook.

whoever came up with the plan to assault the body with the str8 rite deserves credit......it was a very good tactic

Kessler's body work was good last night.
I have a feeling that was one of the reasons Froch opted to move more than put the pressure on like normal.

Froch could have beaten Kessler if he fought more aggressively from the get go. For quite a few rounds throughout the fight he seemed content to only use his jab and fight off the back foot. He should have been throwing straight rights and left hooks all night because Kessler was there to be hit, and in the exchanges Froch was landing the better and harder shots. It's a shame he didn't fight more aggressively because I scored the fight a draw and a couple more strong and assertive rounds from Froch would have convinced me that he clearly won the fight.
I have a feeling that Kessler fought his best fight, and Froch wasn't at his best i.e (being aggressive). Maybe he thought that as champion he could coast a lot of rounds behind his jab and rack up points. Which would have been a stupid idea because he wasn't fighting in home or neutral territory. I believe that if the hungry version of Froch that fought Pascal turned up on Saturday night, he would have won the fight.
I'm hoping that Froch throws caution to the wind against Abraham. He isn't a boxer and shouldn't pretend to be. His strengths lie in his ability to grind his opponents down through relentless pressure and continued assault. Hopefully losing his belt will spark that fire inside of him once more and he can put a beating on the very beatable Abraham. He needs to hurt him early and make him respect his power because in the Dirrell fight, Abraham looked as if he didn't like to be hit, and Froch hits a whole lot harder than Dirrell.
I have no idea where this body work has come talk has come from. Damn that Steve Bunce thread lmfao. Everyone is talking like Mike McCallum just bust Froch to the liver for 12 rounds. It was probably the reason for Froch slowing in the 6-8 but it is an investment....Kessler paid the price upstiars with the Froch jab. Still, last 4 (especially 10-11) rounds Kessler was the one who was tiring IMO.
I thought the body work that Kessler did in the fight slowed Froch down quite considerably in the second half of the fight, I thought it explained the drop in output from Froch. This just confirms it to me.

was a good fight to watch i was impressed by the shots both kessler and froch were taking...their both good fighters but i prefer mikkel ;)
I was bemused by Froch and his decision not to go to the body.
Kessler boxed briliant and I expected got the UD.
Froch and his low hands was stupid decision.
If Froch fought with his hands up, he'd lose to almost anyone. Nah he wouldn't, but fighting with hands up, just ain't his style. He won't be so hard to read and akward if he changed his style!
Froch is a poker faced dude who dont go down when hurt to the body, and rarely goes down when they land on his face as well.
But kessler was always going to pose froch problems simply because kessler has been there and done it with boxers like JC. So kessler knew what level he had to perform at to produce the goods.

No need for Froch to go to the body especially. Froch had good succes with headshots.
It was the best fight of the Super 6 so far.
Not only was it the best I really doubt we will see a better one. Maybe if these two meet again somehow as they are the only real matchup that leads to a fight like the one we just saw.
I thought it was a better fight than Williams-Martinez which was the FOTY when it happened.
So If Froch ended strong it meant the body punches didn't effect him... logically, hitting him in the body in the later rounds would be ineffective as scoring blows compared to headshots when there are only a few rounds left anyway.
Not true. As someone else pointed out body blows can have more negative impact mentally than physically on a fighter.
I don't think the punches sapped Froch's strength because he is extremely durable and well conditioned.
What I believe is that Kessler's body work made Froch hesitant to throw punches and engage in the middle rounds. He was afraid to attack and put on his normal pressure because Kessler was landing hard body shots at will.
Once Kessler stopped doing it Froch was probably relieved and saw his chance to attack. At that point Kessler obliged him and stood toe to toe. It was great for the fans so I am not complaining, I just think Kessler could have made the ending of the fight a whole lot easier for himself by sticking to his body attack.
I thought they were clear watching on TV, you could hear the thud if you had some decent audio.
To me Kessler's body work had Froch wavering in rounds 6-8, it was pretty obvious at that juncture that Froch was running on less energy than usual.
That being said Kessler got sucked into Froch's fight late and abandoned what had worked so well early in the fight. I thought the last 3 rounds were among the best 3 closing rounds I have ever seen but I scored them for Froch and I believe the only reason he closed strong was because Kessler abandoned the consistent body attack late in the fight.
I think I'd score the last 3 rounds differently. Perhaps completely opposite you or at least 2-1 Kessler.
I thought you could tell in Froch's body language that those body punches were getting to him. He just likes to bounce around like nothing is hurting him. He does a good job doing that shit.
