Floyd has beatin some decent fighters ... but Williams to me is going down as an all time great... he juggle between different weight classes and dude will fight anyone and take any fight at any weight... ultimately he will probably bite off more than he can chew ... but he take risk ... i would already rank williams above floyd as far as ATG status ... but thats just me ...
floyd definitely is right ...he gets paid and there aint no denying that ... williams and mosley will go on the hall of fame wall ... floyd might get there but i would not rank him aove any of these men...
Is this serious?
Paul Williams is a good fighter, but come on. You guys would do anything to try to take credit from Floyd. Paul Williams beat Winky after Winky was off for 21 months. Williams beat Margarito which is a big win in a close fight but look at what Shane did to Margarito. Shane is Floyds next opponet. Cintron is Williams next, who Floyd was being critizied for even thinking about fighting even though I never heard Floyd's camp mention fighting Cintron. Their resumes are not even comparable Williams has never been the Linear camp at any weight. The Martinez win is Williams' biggest win and it looks even better after what Martinez did to Pavlick but Hall of Fame resumes are not close.
Paul Williams lost to Sergio Martinez. lol at anybody who thinks that PWILl and FLOYD Mayweather can even be compared.
!!!Laugh all you want at me now!!!:
Martinez can school Mayweather and give him a run for his money. If a shot De la Hoya (standing 5'10") was able to get the best of Mayweather for a few rounds (which was a split decision), what would a Martinez (standing at 5'10") be able to do to him?
Martinez is too quick, too sharp, southpaw, and has some pop to his punches. Martinez was smaller than Pavlik AND Williams, and still got the best of them. He'd be bigger than Floyd, giving him an edge. Williams got the nod against Martinez though, but Williams can also give Mayweather a run for his money.
...and do you know why I think this is all true? Because you will never see Mayweather fight Martinez or Williams.
To Floyd's credit, we are jumping many weight divisions here if we say he would never face these guys. Martinez is a 154 lber though, and Floyd fought DLH at 154... Not impossible, just not plausible. Might as well say Pacman would never fight Vitali.
Indeed!!!!!!!!!!!! This Williams fans are delusional
Its fighters fans that tend to turn me off of them more so than the fighters themselves. Williams is a tough guy and he seems to be willing to fight anyone and I respect that, but a younger Floyd was an unbelievable fighter. I am disappointed in Floyd for his opponent choice the past few years, but he still has some quality wins. Williams is a good fighter, but I just dont see him as an ATG talent, he can have a good future and be a HOFer, but I dont see him on the level of Mayweather.
Floyd
Marquez - No.2 P4P, floyd coming off a 21 month break, a good warm up against a name opponent, it was meant to bulid to a pac fight
Hatton - Undefeated, highly rated opponent at the time, fighting at a more comfortable weight for hatton, many people thought he could win at the time
De la Hoya - Fought him at 154, again another comfortable weight for oscar, past prime but still dangerous as you said many thought he could win
Baldomir- yes limited opponent but everyone was questioning why he wasnt facing the guy who beat judah, i rememeber brian kenny blasting floyd for this so he did and beat him
Judah - this was already organised before he fought baldo, he went through with it anyway still a good fight against a dangerous opponent
Marquez: Some warm-up. Floyd forced Marquez to move up 2 weight classes, and STILL disrespectfully came in 2 lbs over the weight limit. Not only was Floyd at his comfortable weight, he forced Marquez to move up about 10 lbs in weight limit, and he still outweighed him by 4 lbs at the weigh in.
Hatton: Actually Floyd was fighting at his comfortable weight, not Hatton. He forced Hatton to come up to 147 lbs when Hatton's natural weight was 140.
De La Hoya: Only real "sacrifice" Floyd made to win a legit fight. DLH was game, Floyd moved up in weight to fight, but Floyd ran all effin night. I still think DLH won...
Baldomir: Worth shit.
Judah: Worth shit. 4 rd fighter. No heart.
Gatti: Entertaining, but always been a C-class fighter. Been schooled by every decent fighter he met.
So please get your fact straights if defending Mayweather. Tell it like it was.
Lesson of the day: If Mayweather would have just faced a prime Cotto, just like Pacman did, maybe he would have shut most of us up, just like Pacman did. Margarito would have been part of this argument, if it wasn't for his plastered-cheating ways.
Why not??? Whether you get KO'd much like Hatton did in the Pac fight and/or Quintana did in the 2nd fight with Williams means nothing. Resumes (regardless of outcome) is the discussion. You see...my logic is....the INTENT and the agreement between both fighters is what I am referring to. To my earlier point, Hatton gets my full respect going against Tzyu, Mayweather and Pac. Shane Mosely, despite the ??? on steroids has had an impressive resume. One might even say it's BETTER than Floyd.
All of the aforemention fighters have earned their stripes for the fights they've been in. I might not care for Hatton's style, but, you nor I can never take that experience (fight) away from him because it happend, and he endured (win or lose).
well thats fair enough, when i talk about resume i mean the fighters thats been beaten.
Matters to me. That's not a knock on Williams, it makes his win that much better.
Oh...ok. I thought it was an argument against Williams. My bad! :pat:
ehhhhhhh... how is it not, so by your logic you could fight all the best fighters in the world get knocked out in the 1st round and still have a better resume than any fighter

What up GDS...Does it matter if Margo was "plastered" or not??? Williams beat him when noone else (including Mayweather) wanted any part of him.

The point is Williams has a good resume, just like Mayweather in his own right has a good resume. I just happen to believe that P-williams will eventually have a better resume in the future. Win lose or Draw, is not the point. Martinez winning the Williams fight is irrelavant to the resume argument.

floyd did enough ..........in his younger days.........................to have a greater resume....................PWILL arguably loss to Sergio..........and didnt give CQ his rematch..................yeah and marg too................

For the recond, a prime Marg means a plasted Marg correct?

Oh my bad...that was a mistake....but it doesn't help the Floyd argument. Verno Phillips was a tough veteran fighter, during his hayday...noone could knock him out. Williams wth pressure and volume made Verno quit.
point is his last five opponents arn't better than floyds, his last opponent was better but many people think he lost that so...
you said it could be argued pauls last five fights are against better opponents than Floyds which is just, well, bull.
Williams
Martinez
Wright
Phillips (conveniently left out)
Kolle
Quintana
Floyd
Marquez
Hatton
De la Hoya
Baldomir
Judah

A prime Marg is better then Floyds best WW win IMO.
Floyds assumed win over Mosley makes his WW resume elite.
Williams can reach HOF status. The only guy alive that can beat him is Martinez. Thats it IMO and he already holds a win over him.
Paul is slowly but surely building a great resume. Cintron is a Top 5 JMW.
I agree, I won't say Williams is an ATG as the thread starter indicated. Williams will be HOF in no time. Martinez IS bad!
LOL You are too cool for school...Floyd's "assumed" win over Mosely. THAT I disagree with you on homie. But it's ok...may the best man win!
Fair enough...Williams shouldn't pick on guys shorter than him, but he does make weight, which is the requirement. Furthermore, Floyd shouldn't go into a fight heavier than a fighter who was already smaller to begin with.
ATG??? Didn't say he was...all I said was his resume continues to get better.
With that being said...he will possibly one day become a HOF.

What up burner,
I agree that Floyd overall has a "better" resume. His battles with Gatti, Castillo, Corrales etc... How about @ WW?

Prime Margarito
Are great wins for Paul.
Floyd still has the better resume.
