I feel this isn't good for the sport.
The comments by most fans are attempting to relate the nature of the crime to the "brutality of the sport"

Hell pretty much everywhere.
When a similar thing happened with Wrestling/Chris Benoit it got huge coverage too and they tried to shit all over it, i hope they don't do the same to boxing.
Benoit also killed his own kid...
This is exactly what I was thinking. After Benoit's death, the WWE got real strict with there drug policy. Some shit called the Wellness Policy. Boxing might do the same to save face
Strict?
They didn't change anything.
More than half of those guys are on steroids.Less than 10% are released from their contracts.
Won't hurt boxing in the least, the same way OJ Simpson did't hurt football.
What happened to Valero wasn't in any way related to boxing. If he would have died in the ring, then that might have been a different story.
why would that ruin the sport u fukking dumbasses? valero killing his wife or even if he goes killing the entire venezuelan populaton has nothing to do with boxing. Only his fights matter in boxing.
Doctors said that years of wrestling and blows to the head could have caused Benoit to kill his family. Boxing is going to get a lot of bad press over this.
Its sad to see a boxing champ pass the way he did. It was even sadder to see how he lived his life outside of the ring. As much as I loved his tenacity in the ring and his bravado to even have his country and president tattooed across his chest I hated what he has become. A addict that took a young mother away from her children for good. He killed himself and may Allah SWT have mercy on his soul.

that's true, this is gonna be big news for a while IMO

You're a dumb ass idiot, the news is already reporting shit saying that boxing is a violent sport and that is one of the reasons he killed his wife. They are already blaming boxing, genius.
If only it was that simple. If the media wants to, they could point out to Valero's head injuries despite of which he was still allowed to box, which to some extent may have affected his actions.
Well, I was right technically, I said he would kill and be kiled in prison.
Probably the reason he killed himself is because I bet alot of inmates threaten to shank him anyways. I doubt it was the guilt of killing and beating the shit out of his family members. Despite the reputation some prisoners have, alot of prisoners do not like women beaters.

It won't do anything to the sport, people expect this stuff from boxing now.
Also unlike the WWF, boxing has no single organization the media can go after.
Surprisingly it was mentioned on Finnish newspapers even though boxing doesn't get much coverage here. Unfortunately it's negative attention for the sport but the media can hardly ignore it.
