Nobody gives the guy an ounce of credit. All you do is call him "club brawler" or whatever, and I can't believe it. The dude gives us good fights all the time and what he fought through last night made me like him even more. I'd like to see "Sexy Sergio" fight with those kind of cuts on his face. He probably would not have made it knowing his modeling career might be in danger. I like Sergio. He is a good fighter who got robbed out of a couple wins but give Pavlik some credit. I'd like to see a rematch.
thats because sergio didnt let him pull the trigger.
DUH!
This wasn't the only fight he looked sluggish in he looked like complete shit against hopkins. I just think he is done, i hope not but i don't think he wins another meaningful fight ever again!

what credit? credit for fighting like a moron?
Why the hell did he kept coming forward when he wasn't even letting his hands go. Like watching a man using his face for a punchbag.
Martinez's right cross was landing at will at almost every chance he wanted to pull that punch it was painfall watching it. Getting right crossed from a man with much shorter arms than you is really a disgrace.
The only consalation i can give Pavlik is that he looks drained, he needs to move up in weight class because he look like a shell of a man there against a man even smaller than him. You guys see how frail his back and shoulder blades and his legs looked like straws.
He needs to move up cus it looks like he's killing himself to make this weight. Im not sure his skill sets are gonna be gud enough in a higher weight class either, cus those mofos aint gonna pita pata like martinez.
I don't want to see a rematch of this fight, because there are better fights out there for Sergio. I think Floyd, Mosley, and Williams stand a better chance of beating Sergio than Pavlik does. But we might see the fight again because of a rematch clause.
I liked pavliks interview at the end, he was pretty honest and comes across as a decent guy, he did well in the middle rounds and should get his rematch even though i would much prefer a williams martinez rematch, both are better than pavlik imo
Pavlik NEVER quit and was actually doing his thing in the middle rounds UNTIL Sergio opened him up.....Pavlik got pizza faced by a a guy he out-weighed by 11 pounds......thats props worthy?!? :ugh:
so now we should praise Pavlik for having one of the worst middleweight title reigns in history? He had four defenses and three were against complete bums. The one good fighter he defended his crown against, he had an 11 pound weight advantage over and STILL got whooped. Pavlik deserves no credit whatsoever. He's the worst middleweight champ we've had in my lifetime.
Posts like these are a joke which completely discredit, actually dont even mention his other fights. I guess you want champions who defend their belts against worthless mandatories instead of challenge themselves, even if its outside their weight class (Taylor, Hopkins). Pavlik has consistently shown himself willing to face best fighters available, how do you have the nerve to knock how bout his stupid title reign?
Who was there to fight at middle? Abraham had just as weak of a title reign as Pavlik. Only difference being that he dismantled a force in Miranda before he got his title while Abraham squeaked by with a plethora of iffy point deductions.
Pavlik can pull the trigger just fine. Martinez is a big mover, and Hopkins is a master defensive fighter. It's not the same as letting go on a stationary Miranda or Taylor who kept getting caught on the ropes.
Top Rank should be left scratching their heads on this one. Williams and AA are two big fights Kelly could have fought and won. Instead he fought two guys who are hell for his style.
as far as Pavlik getting a new trainer, i think he needs to add more boxing training to his workouts. looks like he's just conditioning to make 160 and relying on what got him to the top to keep him there. i wonder who he was sparring with, and what they worked on because even in the rounds he was winning he still was a bit hesitant to let his hands go.
if hes too loyal to his camp, it wouldnt hurt to add someone to work on adding some new angles to his game.

I like Kelly's style a lot, he is tough and likes to knock guys out. But what does he deserve credit for ? He got outclassed and beat by a smaller man. Sergio put on one hell of a performance, happy to see him win but Kelly disappointed me more that Sergio impressed.
exactly. it was more of a letdown not seeing Kelly firing off any shots. i give Kelly credit for controlling serg in the middle rounds and reducing his offense. during that part of the fight Kelly was cutting off the ring, and finding his range without getting hit. Paul Williams did not look happy. Then Serg dug down and took a risk and scored a great left that changed the fight. Paul Williams looks happy again. lol.
Pavlik cant handle basic skills of a pure boxer, lateral movement, a jab, quick combinations, and his defense is awful, that effectively makes him a club C level fighter.
How can you watch last nights fight and think that? He actually adjusted well mid fight and won about 4 rounds in a row. After the first two rounds it didn't look likely.
He's actually decent defensively. He's just way too slows, and it leaves him more vulnerable. Martinez fought a brilliant 10th round and it was all cake from there.
He really needs a new trainer. But he never will because he is too loyal. Could be his downfall. I'm not saying if he had a better trainer he would have won. But come on...who is Jack Loew.
all these pavlik supporters, the belst is for THE BEST fighter in a division...pavlik lost to a better fighter, he deserves about as much credit as anyone else you lost their belt to another fighter..pretty much coming up in weight as well. Sergio did his thing.
i agree cause when he beat miranda and taylor he looked like a beast. but like you said hopkins ****ed wit him and now he is not the same. and sergio is good dont get me wrong i wanted him to win. but his style is annoying
First off I am a fan of Kelly Pavlik, and I do agree he does need a new trainer. But at the same time he can't pull the trigger anymore, I don't know what happend but it all started in the Hopkins fight and I thought it was just because he went up in weight and was just sluggish but he just couldn't get his shots off very fast last night and wasn't as active as he should of been. I don't know if he will ever bounce back but I hope he does and I do think he should consider hiring a new head trainer and if he wants to keep Jack around as another corner man like Cotto is doing with Santiago so be it.
I would like to see a rematch. I think the cuts were a factor in the fight. Pavlik was giving Martinez a lesson in the middle rounds. But if Pavlik is cut prone that is another strike against him. Plus Pavlik may not have enough energy to fight late rounds now at middle weight due to cutting to much weight.
i respect kelly for not bitching out but in 8th i think he was telling jack " i cant see" and jack was like dont say that and the cut man covered his face with the towel really quick and played defense against the fight doc.. that was funny. but i personally think he needs a new trainer
