Congrats to Sergio Martinez for the great win. I'm happy for him that he finally got a fair shake in America.
With that said, NSB has a bad habit of trashing guys after losses, but Pavlik is a great champ who lost to an even greater fighter. I'm just hoping somehow Kelly can get his confidence back and fight like the Pavlik of old, because I always thought he was a great assest to boxing. So congrats to Pavlik for giving the boxing world many good moments (taylor fights, Miranda, etc) and I'm happy we got to see a great MW fight tonight. Keep you head up champ and hopefully we will see you back to your old form...peace
what a good fight i really thought kelly had it in the bag lastnight esp after the kd
the cut must have ruined him
the rematch is gonna be sickkk
this is REAL BOXING
REAL FIGHTS for fight fans !
not no mayweather marquez or pac clottey bullshit
i won alotta points on martinez lastnight
but after seeing how well kelly adjusted lastnight
get his ass a new cutman and he takes the remacth by late stoppage
Well, two things happened that changed the fight (once Kelly was ahead in the 8th).He got another cut (in the 9th) and he couldn't see,and Sergio had a second wind once he found the opportunity.
It was a competitive fight until Pavlik got the 2nd cut, then he seemed to give up-that is what bothered me more than anything, his demeanor.
Kelly's confidence is getting devastated again and again. We can say he might have edged out a win if he didn't get that second cut,but what happens in a rematch? Will Pavlik be "gun-shy" now,or will he lack the confidence in himself to make it competitive?
Props to Kelly for taking a tougher fight in Sergio though, because I believe Sergio is a tougher fight for Kelly (style-wise) than Williams. This fight will make him motivated to learn more and confront his flaws,or finish his career...
i don't believe kelly will become gun shy but i will be interested in seeing how he will try and apply pressure to martinez without taking the kind of shots he was taking early in the fight
after the 4th round or so pavlik began to pick some of the shots off and he was closing the distance on martinez but then after he got opened up you knew he was in big trouble
the hopkins loss was devastating because he got schooled and never won a round however i do believe had his face held up he would've won a close decision and that should give him confidence that he can win next time out
credit to martinez he fought a great fight once again proved he deserved to be champ
those cuts changed the momentum once again but was a great fight. Pavlik did well. And finally martinez got what he's been working for

Nothing like a great champion his reign was horrible and he lost to the first proper challenger he faced.
But he gets a load of stick unfairly, I'm not sure he duck Williams if you're injured you're injured only thing I fault him on is not taking it seriously and prolonging his time out.
I like Pavlik, good luck to the guy.
Pavlik is good he had his moments, the cut on the right eye definitely hindered his vision which sucks against a fast guy like Martinez. Pavlik actually showed some good reflexes and quick shots in the fight until he could'nt see. I think with this experience he can come back with a better game plan and we could see an even better fight. Congrats to Martinez he was the better man tonight, but he does'nt have any power at middleweight and that will be another part of Pavlik's new gameplan.
The time off hurt him, as it does most fighters. Not saying Martinez wouldn't have outboxed him anyways, just saying inactivity is any fighters worst enemy and Pavlik has been on the shelf too long.
Kelly seems like a decent guy,but it is time for him to seriously consider a new coach or getting out of the sport.
Jack Leow's miserably failed gameplan of sending Kelly in there without a solid gameplan and his usual "double the f-ing jab" speech is stale.Jack Leow should have had Kelly work on movement and defense (especially after the Bernard fight). This has all come back to "haunt" him.
Hopkins took his soul and Sergio destroyed him-He has never looked beat up like that... the 9th round Kelly was already wanting to quit.I'm just not sure he will ever get his confidence back, and even if he has some fight left (which I doubt),then there is not much he will accomplish...I can't believe that at one time he wanted to fight Calzaghe.....
I got kinda scared that Sergio was gonna lose after the 8th...
Then Maravilla just went apeshit in the 9th...
but yeah, Kelly seems like a cool dude. He needs a better corner, though.
yea, it looked like martinez was going to overwhelm pavlik all night, but pavlik seemed to figure out what he needed to do and appeared to be heading for a possible stoppage win. then martinez came back and finished strong.
