im liking katsidis in this just off experience @ a world class level
but if mitchell can pull it off thats great
britts need a new big star in the wake off hattons retirement
There's a pretty common feeling Katsidis is only one foolhardy rush away from being KO'd i.e. Casamayor. There's also his tendency to cut. That's why all his opponents fancy themselves against him and the odds-makers are nervous of picking him.
I read the other day a British referee is officiating, which is disastrous news for Katsidis. Every UK fight I watch there's one set of rules for the home guy and another for the visitor. Katsidis needs a knock-out to win this one.
Is it me or has Katsidis gotten better after losing to Juan Diaz, and while Juan Diaz's career is going down the drain Kats is career is getting better. If Kats loses against Mitchell, his career will be down the shitter too. This is a big opportunity for both men. I think Kats is looking really good now, tighter defense and still throws bunches of punches too, and leaves himself less open though.
Or does he only look like that because he isn't fighting Casamayor or Juan Diaz level opponents?
Despite what his detractors say, Katsidis has definitely tightened up his defence over the past year. It's obviously not on the Wright/Clottey/Abraham level, but it's also not as atrocious as it once was - especially during the Casamayor fight, where there were so many holes in his guard it was laughable, and anyone could've picked him off. Against Chavez and Escobedo, his guard was leaky but that'll always be part of his style. He's inevitably going to get hit at some point, but so do plenty of offensively-minded guys like Pacquiao.
For Diaz, he tried a tighter guard but it seemed to backfire on him for 2 reasons - firstly, because he wasn't used to fighting from such a closed-up stance, it didn't allow him to get his massive shots off like before. This in turn gave Diaz more opportunity to get his own (weaker) shots off and score more points to get the rounds. Counterpunch city. Secondly, Kats was visibly gunshy after that Casamayor KO, and we all know that he normally loves to get into a scrap - i.e. Earl and Amonsot a year prior.
If Mitchell ends up meeting the Kats who showed up against Escobedo, the former is in for a rough and nasty night. WAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRR!!!
I don't know enough about Mitchell but I'm surprised that so many people favor him to win. Katsidis has definitely gotten better each time out since losing to Juan Diaz and he should be the favorite in my opinion.
