So if alvarez beats a Jose Cotto, who's best weight is at 135-140 and who lost to juan diaz, that means alvarez is ready for a title shot at 147???
please explain to me the logic. I don't understand how beating up a blown up lightweight makes a person ready for a titleshot at 147 lbs. DLH must be using floyd xylocaine jr logic: none.
this is why GBP is the worst promotional company for a prospect. Victor Ortiz anyone?
Oscar weighed in at about 145, and I recall that he said he'd been down to 143.5 lbs. So he was in pretty dry shape.
yep GBP matchmaking is horrendous. they were better off just fighting margarito at 154 instead of fighting pac at 147.
dont be obtuse. every boxing fans wants to see a steady progression. no one wants to see a bunch of one sided fights and then see a prospect fail when he
's finally tested
I actually had to look up that word....
it's called matchmaking. you don't throw you prospect at an unknown quantity like maidana. I'm not against giving ortiz a real challenge, but against a known quantity that you know he should be able to handle.
GBP matchmaking is the worst in boxing. they threw jmm in with floyd; they knew jmm had no chance. they made hopkins/rjj even though they knew that was a shitty fight. they took their most marketable boxer (dlh himself) weight drained him to get down to 147 lbs to get crushed by pac. these guys at GBP are total buffoons.

No your just grasping at straws, because its easy to place a blame or dig up reasons then to retrospectively analyze what this fight meant, and how it went down. Ortiz did not follow his game plan, he suckered himself into brawl.
Maidana was a perfect match, for Ortiz to show off. He is a one dimensional flat footed puncher, coming off a loss to Andriy Kotelnik. There is no reason why Ortiz could not have outboxed Maidana like Kotelik did.
if you're right, then there's no reason why there shouldn't have been an immediate rematch.
the fact that there are no plans for a rematch means GBP finally got the point... don't rush ortiz and feed him nate. but nate is a savy vet and might pull some tricks out of his sleeve.
too bad GBP didn't learn they gotta do the same w/ Alvarez.
nope, he has GBP to thank for putting him in a bunch of one-sided fights and when ortiz had to face someone that wasn't gonna go away, he quit.

amen to that. This place is full of Monday morning quarterbacks......
lols... GBP sucks at building up their prospects. what else is there to say
The hell are you talking about? For losing to a one dimensional puncher, Ortiz has no one to blame but himself.

How is that relevant to right now, today? The two best promoters are Arum and GPB.
Yeah, yo we talking son.. Speaking of which. Please see above post where you will see how Frank and Nas are as irrelevant to this thread as what I said about GPB promoting fights. Stupid DLH mind you.
Since we can't stay on topic, join me and
lols. you said name one I gave you one. you never said anything about relevancy to day.
as for you going off topic.... stay on topic or GTFO
its GBP fault for putting him in that situation. they rushed him too fast after feeding him a bunch of bums and guys that had no hope of beating him.
also they didn't properly scout maidana. they probably did what most of you did and just looked him up on boxrec.com

wait lets break this down a bit
Ortiz- remember Top Rank had him first so any development issues could have started there as well. Also, at some point a fighter brought along in the manner at which Ortiz was has to show his mettle. As far as I know I didn't see anyone on here giving Maidana much of a shot based on his lackluster performance against Kotelnik. Funny how revisionists now think Maidana was shit monster going into it and all lays on GBP's feet
Valero- uh what exactly are you supposed to do with a guy who isn't medically cleared to fight in the US and has had issues with law?
Mosley- a lot of it is his own doing or did we forget that he kept calling out Manny and only Manny during the entire summer even so far as asking for 140lbs. I actually talked to Bradley's co promoters and said they should take up the slack and offer their services to Shane and he said GBP didnt want that fight even at a catchweight because Shane only wants big names
Hopkins- I think we have seen why GBP has been hesitant in getting into the Hopkins fight business anymore. They at best broke even on April 3rd

you think hamed wasn't brought along well? explain.
You said he was a stupid promoter
we talking about how GBP handles their prospects. get on topic or GTFO.
I don't like GBP as much as the next guy, but using Ortiz as an example is pretty bad.
GBP expected him to put on a boxing clinic against a brawling monster, instead he opted to go to war.
It was his fault.

I don't understand fight fans. When Arum or King set up BS fights and pad the record of a fighter, you guys complain. Saying it takes away from boxing and that you never get to see exciting fights.
Now Golden boy is trying to give the boxing public better quality fights and you still complain.......
Some people never are happy and don't have a clue what they want.

that's what we thought maidana was too. I ain't saying alvarez can't do it, i'm just saying GBP history of poor matchmaking might ruin alvarez

Xylocaine isn't illegal so you can put it in your body and shit and not feel any pain
