There is the level of comp to consider. There is also some key fights. Calzaghe struggled against Hopkins who was hardly prime. I would put Calzaghe ahead of Ottke because of his victory over lacy. But Lacy turned out to be a bust all the same. Cotto fought better fighters throughout his career. Its impossible to know if Calzaghe was really on the level of Cotto because he never really challenged himself. Even his victory over kessler is admirable but Kessler is more workmanlike (comparable to Margarito) than spectacular. Cotto was competative against Mayweather, he actually caused Mayweather to reevaluate his training situation. He beat Shane Mosley and even in a losing effort showed tremendous forbearance against the cheating Margarito. There is really no comparison.

For me Cotto. All factors considered.

Cotto never ducked and dodge nobody he was the last throw back champion, he fought better competion. Joe is decent and has good combos but when things started to get heated he retired..

Hopkins and Mosley are practically wins of the same kind. I'll take Kessler, Bika, Eubank (even if he was old) over guys like Clottey, Torres, Malinaggi, and Zab. And I think Hopkins is a better fighter than Mosley and the Calzaghe-Hopkins fight was less controversial to me than the Cotto-Mosley fight.
