when he first set up negotiations with the klitschko brothers he was offered a lousy contract, and now that he is carrying a world heavyweight title belt, he has gathered huge support in the u.k but he is also getting some exposure on the world boxing scene. thus giving him a better chance at achieving a better contract with the Klitschko brothers. when the first negotiations started Haye was the enforcer but now the Klitschko brothers whant the fight more than ever.

He's smart yes.
So is Hopkins beating famous WW at 160 and MWs at 175.
So is Floyd only fighting hype jobs and old cats.
So is Roach picking unconfident and tailor made fighters for Manny.
So is Haye picking the WBA paper belt, and going for a slow Vitali who is fading unlike Wlad who is more athletic and untouchable than ever...
The WBC belt means more than the IBF+WBO+IBO+ring mag undisputed belt??
C'mon.
The green one is my fav,but C'mon.
He's smart but he's a bitch and the not the new Tyson he told us.
He's done well in a business sense, and a fighting sense. Instead of stepping into the ring with a HW champ straight away he's got experience fighting good Heavyweights. Now is the time to cash in on what he has built, he won't get much better than he is now and he won't get much more money than he can now.
yes he is a smart business wise guy since the negotiations with the klitschkos broke down for whatever reason haye has:
Won a world title belt witch greatly raised his profile
Been on numerous television shows in the U.K also raising his profile
Won an exciting fight by K.O defending his title against mandatory Ruiz
While doing all this he has repeatedly got under the klitschkos skin making sure either one really want this fight
All this has now given haye good solid ground to negotiate a much better deal and it has almost put him in a position to call the shots although I don’t think he desirves more than a 40/60 split in either klitschkos favour
I've been one of the Haye critics but I will admit that he DID maneuver himself in a better position as far as the negotiation table goes :cool2:....a real slick dude and I mean that as a complement :fing02:
in the past year he has gone from a contender to a very well known heavyweight champ that can pull big PPV buys and big gate sales. he has probably tripled his earnings in the last year alone, and with the klitschko fight coming up soon hopefully. he has been very smart and played his cards right.
This what alot of ppl miss..boxing is big money business now, with fighters doin there own promotion and earning big dough..haye is playing it smart and is going to earn millions, he's following mayweathers footsteps, trash talk and keep ppl guessing...they are both smart
Very smart imo. Why rush to sign a lousy deal with the Klit's when you are really the only threat to them anyway. It was clever what he did, now that he has a belt that the Klit's desire he can go into the fight on equal footing.
Imo the longer he makes them wait, the better, especially with the heavyweight division being what it is now.
