All I hear is negativity. Hopkins holds, he's dirty, Pavlik is one dimentional.
This man was 43 years old in that fight, against a 26 year old with a huge punch and unbeaten. Almost everyone said Pavlik was going to knock him out and not only did Hopkins win, he battered Pavlik, entertained, his hand speed was blistering, he came in with the perfect game plan and carried it out.
That is possibly the best win of the last decade.
I repeat, the man was 43 years old, it was an incredible achievement.
90 percent of the clowns on this forum were talking about how Hopkins would not only lose, but get ktfo, but when he gatt's moby they choose not to give the guy who was supposed to be the old sacrificial lamb any credit.
I know both you and ИASAS666 on here, I have seen you both post here and both have been cool with me so I definitely don't have nothing negative to say about him nor you, personally I feel like both of you are good members of this online community, ya both contribute respectable opinions it's just opinions differ and sometimes people just have to agree to disagree, hopefully ya can straighten out the negativity between y'all.. peace
good post crillz...
no sense arguing with NASA000 about hopkins obvious grossly overmatched weight and strength advantages in his biggest wins...he tries to create the illusion that such things are either fair, or don't exist...

that may be the case, Kelly needs to mix his shit up more and work on other key punches but that doesn't negate the weight difference of where he belonged to where he was at, at 160 he KO'ed Taylor and just 5-6 pounds heavier he looked as if he lost, TRUE that Taylor fought a better fight in the 2nd fight but my point is that the weight plays a part too u feel me you can't just say that it was the same ol Kelly Pavlik..
Edit: 1 more thing it's not so much weight but how it affects the person, Juan Manuel Marquez went up 9 pounds to fight Mayweather and the weight didn't bother him, he put it on well so in that case the weight isn't a problem, in Kelly's case I personally feel the weight DID affect him and it took away from his performance on fight night therefore the weight was a problem, every fighter is different and Kelly just wasn't the same threat at 170+ as he is at 160 where he is unified champion at

what fight did you watch? Hopkins did not fight dirty against pavlik nor did he foul him. He beat pavlik with lateral movement and beating him to the punch. Pavlik was the one that "tried" to low blow hopkins after his genius of a trainer told him to "touch his nuts."
Hopkins didn't beat pavlik because of size, he did it simply because he's the better fighter and like I said, lateral movement and beating kelly to the punch. Further, hopkins is a master at taking away the jab. I repeat, he takes away the jab. What is kelly's main arsenal? The jab following by his right, the basic 1-2 combo. You take that away from Kelly and he has NOTHING left. It's that simple. Any fighter at any weight class that can take kelly's jab away will destroy him just like hopkins.

I feel i give enough credit. I thought he did great that night and told everybody i discussed the fight with that i thought he boxed beautifully. For a 43 year old guy, he looked really good.
However..
Hopkins does hold, Hopkins is dirty. At least after he turned 40. And Pavlik is one-dimensional..
True, he was unbeaten and is a hell of a puncher, but he, on the other hand, looked really bad. Slower than usual, more plodding than usual, looked really uncomfortable.. and he admittet it himself... There was a good interview in the news section on this site a couple of months and he has said it many other times that he was really uncomfortable, had been sick and wasnt really himself in that fight.
Poor excuses i know, like allways in boxing(why is one or two losses so bad??) but i cannot help thinking he may be telling the truth...
i mean come on... Everybody can have a bad day. Ali had one against Norton, arguably also in his first fight with Frazier. Tyson(though it was coming) had one, pre-prison. Corrales(though he was outmatched) had one. Lance Armstrong, Tiger Woods, Roger Fererer, and Fedor(:)) all had bad days. Maybe Kelly just had one that night??
also styles makes fights, and Pavlik is tailor-made for Hopkins. And Hopkins is really really good. He would probably beat Pavlik at any weight at any time(1993-2009), but a Pavlik at middleweight, at 100% would have given Hopkins a much tougher fight. And he would not have looked as good then
Hopkins beat Pavlik's ass something terrible. People forget that Pavlik had just fought at SMW that year, and had been up to LHW earlier in his career. At least they do now. At the time, Hopkins was getting his props for that win. Over time, Pavlik has fallen off hard, and it's taken some of the luster for the win away from Hopkins. It was a huge win for him.
Pavlik is a middle weight.
Hopkins is a light Heavyweight.
Its a huge win for HIM. But it means nothing in the grand scheme of things.

Yeah man, this is a good run leading up to May 1.
Past that. We have boxing all the way to June 26th I'm pretty sure. Well June 12th is shit, but besides that.
Agreed. I think Froch Kessler the next week though has even more possibilities. Crazy couple of weeks in boxing coming up. I'm pumped.

Honestly bro...If Kermit Cintron can land his right hand on him...Pav most defiantly will. Martinez gets caught with way too much bullsh1t anyways, circles the wrong way alot and makes too many mistakes. He might be able to win, but I feel a Pavlik KO coming.
A Pavlik KO is likely; wouldn't surprise me at all. I don't know if he'll be able to land it effectively early but at some point he'll straighten it out and land big. Don't think Martinez can deal with too many of those - we'll see how many he can avoid.
Yeah, seriously. I'm picking Pavlik by decision. Think he'll do more down the stretch. But this is a fight where a lot of scenarios could play out.

I actually think the most important key to the fight is Pavlik's jab. Martinez I think struggles a bit with height of fighters and can't get his style going if he's stopped by a jab. He showed trouble with Cintron because of Cintron's height and jab.
However, can Pavlik's jab get through a southpaw style and can he deal with Martinez's speed and combinations? Also can Martinez keep the pace up. He's gonna not have to gas or else he's ****ed.

You may have a point - can't wait to see what how he deals with Martinez next week. Pavlik will definitely get hit but so will Martinez. One thing thing I'm wondering is, will Pavlik be able to land his right against such an effective lefty?

Didnt the TS just expose you....
Your just like Perro a.k.a M@nny. Yall jump shipped and ride Pac now..
We may disagree on Hopkins but we unite on exposing this idiot. :)
blah... blah... blah.
fact is all his career he's been a talentless bum who's only relied on dirty tactics and foul play to win fights. not to mention the bum doesn't have much skills either. that's why he's continuouslys (and deservingly) disrespected and not given credit. the guy sucks ass and he's just a laughing stock.
