I have seen a thread saying that Khan is over-rated but I truely believe that he is grossly under-rated here are my reasons why:
1. At the age of just 17 he fought the lengendary three time olympic gold medalist Mario Kindelan who as an amatuer defeated both Felix Trinidad and Miguel Cotto. Khan later beat Mario Kindelan in a rematch which was his last fight as an amatuer. Khan became the youngest Olympic medalist for UK since 1952 when he won the Silver.
2.His main trainer was Oliver Harrison who was a world champion kickboxer and didnt teach him much defence. Now he has Freddie Roach the best trainer in the world. I doubt Freddie Roach would have taken him on if he thought he was talentless. He rejected the offer to work with Ricky Hatton and Kevin Mitchell.
3. He is the youngest world champion in British boxing history, Most boxers dont turn professional until 22, Amir Khan became world champion at 22. I believe he is third youngest in British history.
4. He trains and spars with Manny Pacquio, You cant get better experience and sparring than the best P4P in the world.
5.He has moved up in weight from lightweight where he struggled to make weight and was weight drained and not so great punch resistence. He was top heavy and had limited leg muscle. Now he is a much more rounded fighter, Larger calf and thigh muscles have helped his punch resistence. His conditioning is top notch thanks to Alex Arizza.
6. He has faced much tougher opposition at a younger age than even the greats like Hatton, Beating a Barrera, Gomez, Kotelnik, Salita. Hatton for example was fighting journeymen at the age of 22 and did not have a world title.
7. Its difficult for him to get fights, Marquez is too scared to fight Khan, Maidana thinks its safer to fight Timothy Bradley. Ortiz would rather fight a fading Nate Campbell. Malignaggi agreed to the fight for a pay-day, He gets $250,000 just for turning up win or loose.
8.His popularity in Britian is the cause of much envy, grievance, dislike, Xenophobia and racism. He is Pakistani-British and Britian does not treat its minorities with respect like minorities in the USA ie Barak Obama. Khan even said himself "If I were white I would be a super-star in the UK". To deny that Khan faces racism in the UK is to be either niave or duplicitous.
9.He has defeated all his opponents bar Bredis Prescott in a lopsided fashion, There is no fight of his that you can really say Khan struggled. Fact no British boxer has been able to defeat Khan or come close.
10.The critics say he has a "Glass jaw" because he was suffered a fluke KO by an opponent who at the time had a 90% KO ratio. Since moving up in weight he has not struggled with taking hard shots, He hasnt been on the canvas since moving up in weight. Also he took more than one flush shot by Prescott and got up the first time and tried the second time, Even if the critics continue repeating this mantra of "glass jaw" they can not question his heart.
For these reasons I believe that AK is grossly under-rated. I would like you to share your opinions but please keep it respectful and refrain from bad language.

Since Alexander lost to Kotelnik, Alexander who was over-rated and over-hyped has come down and people are starting to realize Khan is the most talented in that division.
IMO Khan has a better resume than Bradley, But time will show who is over-rated and who is under-rated.
In the world of roach, If Alexander and Bradley are so good how come they didnt go the Olympics and win medals?
Under-Rated? Lmfaooooooooooo. He beats a guy that was hand picked for him in Malignaggi and he and his fans are already talking about him being the G.O.A.T. Talks about himself fighting Pacman and Mayweather etc etc..............Get the **** outta here you joker. He is more protected than Fort Knox!
He wont fight Pacman because they are both trained by Roach and that fight will never happen. Mayweather will probably be retired by that point anyway.

I wouldn't say he is under- or over-rated. At this point he is right where he needs to be and I highlighted the 3rd point because I think alot of people fail to take his age into consideration when they evaluate him. I think if he continues to box smart and use more defense then he will eventually be the real deal and tough match-up for anybody. Just my two cents.
I have seen a thread saying that Khan is over-rated but I truely believe that he is grossly under-rated here are my reasons why:
2 He rejected the offer to work with Ricky Hatton no he never hatton never reached out to him same as david haye
6. He has faced much tougher opposition at a younger age than even the greats like Hatton, Beating a Barrera, Gomez, Kotelnik, Salita. Hatton for example was fighting journeymen at the age of 22 and did not have a world title. gomez and barrera where both shot and above there natural weight divisions , also gomez had khan down. salita wtf has he ever done??
7. Its difficult for him to get fights, Marquez is too scared to fight Khan, Maidana thinks its safer to fight Timothy Bradley. Ortiz would rather fight a fading Nate Campbell. Malignaggi agreed to the fight for a pay-day, He gets $250,000 just for turning up win or loose. khan ducked madaina and left warren when he had a bradley fight lined up
8.His popularity in Britian is the cause of much envy, grievance, dislike, Xenophobia and racism. 9.He has defeated all his opponents bar Bredis Prescott in a lopsided fashion, There is no fight of his that you can really say Khan struggled. Fact no British boxer has been able to defeat Khan or come close. drillzane limond gomez have all had khan on the canvas . drillzane was at 140 where u say hes never been down and limond has got a crazyily low ko ratio
10.The critics say he has a "Glass jaw" because he was suffered a fluke KO by an opponent who at the time had a 90% KO ratio. iv just fixed it for you
Your 'facts' don't indicate that he's underrated. Most have no relevance to his in ring performances. Look he's not underrated because he hasn't accomplished much to warrant the label, but at the same time he's not overrated either because most people don't believe his supposed greatness yet. He looks like a solid fighter that is getting better with proper training that suffered a hiccup in his career that he wasn't supposed to. Now when Malignaggi beats him, then you will hear him being called overrated.

1) yes thats true but khan has style that is suited to the am game.
2) granted thats true enough
3) yeah hes a got a world title but hes far from a championship level fighter. he took on a fight against the weakest title holder in the division
4) yes, your right he does spar and train pacman with pacman and he does quite well but i think khans style means that he is more suited to boxing with headgear and protection
5) yes he does have thicker legs but they haven't really been tested at 140 have they. when he takes a flush punch from a 140lb fighter (devon alexander, bradders, maidana etc) then we can say his chin is fine. his conditioing is not as good as some might like to believe neither, he was huffing and puffing in the kotelnik fight
6) now you're clutching at straws; barrerra was a shot fighter, gomez had very little left in the tank but managed to deck khan, salita was a clever match up as they knew he would be drained. kotelnik is his best win.
you make some good points about his coach not being a real boxing coach and a few others but on the whole he is over rated.
couldn't be bothered with the rest.....
