Merchant had the decency and respect to approach the commissioner and ask him why he was allowing the fight to continue and the guy just walked away and smiled.
Props to Merchant for standing up for a fighter :boxing:
this is boxing, not ballroom dancing. He let it continue because.......
1. Caballero only landed probably 25% of the garbage he was throwing
2. Youdan was NEVER in trouble
3. Youdan returned punches
4. Cab is not a big puncher
There was NO reason to stop the fight. Unless you think of course that once a guy is behind on the cards then the fight should be stopped. Get real.
This is the best and most sensible comment I have seen on this website all day.
Think of how ridiculous the comment about Sosa-Williams was... The fight was stopped because BOTH guys were taking a beating. OK, I do remember that fight was very brutal and can't even argue with the stoppage...
But if you are that against brutality, wouldn't you not even want the fight to go one round? Wouldn't you just be straight against boxing as a sport, as many people are?
What if Castillo-Corrales had been stopped after round 9? It would just be another fight where Lampley could barely remember the names of the guys involved (Williams-Sosa?).
The sport is what it is. That was not a particularly brutal beating. Much worse beatings are dished out on a pretty regular basis. Now I do think the CORNER should have stopped the fight. The ref or commissioner can not stop it there though. It was not THAT bad.
Larry the legend merchant is a first ballot HOF and a class act.Since I was younger I have always love him he is truthful and all around a class act Larry the Legend Merchant only one thing to say.:notworthy
Yeah I think they were making too much of a big deal out of something that wasn't really that big of a deal. Yordan kept a high guard and didnt really get hit much in the face it was mostly body shots. Plus like the previous poster said he wasnt hurt and he was returning punches. If he kept getting hit in the head and was really hurt then that's a different story but to run over to the commisioner was a little much. I'm sure that Merchant was doing it out of the goodness of his heart though so much respect for that.
