Margarito knew he needed plaster to defeat Cotto

Serious question: Do any of you cats think Cotto will win a rematch? I don't! I happen to think it will end faster. So what is the point? If so many of you are upset with Margo, you should want Cotto to get back in the ring with him and teach him a lesson...But most of you don't even feel that way. Why? Cause you know deep down Margo will smash Cotto again! This time though, there will be no plaster excuses....That is what most of you fear...Really.:bottle:

Some of you cats can be blind if you like (just cause you don't like Margo, or whatever), but his style beats Cotto's all day. Many people knew that before the fight, even more know it now after the fight. Blame it ALL on plaster if you like. Like I said, it is nothing more than a cop out at this point.

I feel Tony knew he would become a Mexican superstar if he beat Cotto who had established himself really well already in the WW division. Cotto was undefeated and looked liked a tank against the majority of his opponents. Tony didn't want to take any chance in this fight and used the plaster(maybe even before Cotto he's been using it...). Without the plaster I think Cotto wouldn't have wilted as easy and Tony would have been more discouraged similar to the way Mosley shut him out. When he lost the first 5 or 6 against Mosley, he knew he was in trouble. Yet...against Cotto there was zero discouragement. Hmmm? bingo, plasterito cheated vs cotto.

"We're definitely going to listen to whatever California says when they finish their investigation," Kizer said. "We would hope it was all on the up and up and it was a misunderstanding. But I'm sure California will do a thorough job and let the fans and the media and everyone know what happened." Kizer is sure everything was on the "up-and-up" in July when Margarito took the WBA welterweight title from Cotto with an 11th round TKO. Cotto dropped to a knee twice in the 11th beaten, battered and bloodied by a relentless two-fisted assault by Margarito. Cotto's face looked disfigured from the damage. Margarito not only won the title that night, but superstar status that resulted in a record crowd of nearly 21,000 fans at the Staples Center for the fight with Mosley. But word came just before the bout that Margarito's hands had to wrapped three times and HBO commentator Larry Merchant told viewers that "an illegal pad" was found in Margarito's wraps, "something that would harden when wet." Jim Lampley later referred to it as an "illegal implement," adding "inevitably, the question will arise, 'Did he have that in the hand wrap last July. Did it harden like plaster of Paris? Was it a factor in the fight." Kizer is confident the rules and procedures in Nevada prevent any irregularities during hand wrapping and putting on the gloves. "We have experienced inspectors not only watching the hands being wrapped, but also the gloves being put on," Kizer said. "They feel the wraps and sign them and then the gloves and sign them." One difference between Nevada and Calfornia is that Nevada provides the gauze for the hand wrappings, while California allows fighters to use their own gauze. Speaking specifically about July, Kizer said, representatives from the Cotto camp were in Margarito's dressing room during the entire wrapping of the hands. "They were in there from the beginning," Kizer said. "Not only them but people from HBO, people from MGM, there are always a dozen or so people in the dressing room. "I'm pleased with the process we have in Nevada," Kizer said. "Not only does it stop anybody who tries to do something like that, it stops anybody who is thinking about doing it."

picture those same 70+ uppercuts with handwraps full of plaster, yea he caught Cotto with it but he had a power boost in his gloves which made all the difference for him, if I hit you with 70+ regular uppercuts it wouldn't be even a 3rd as bad as 70+ uppercuts with plaster in your wraps, THAT'S why the damage built up so much on Cotto.. There is no proof that he used wraps against Cotto... Now, lets get to the bottom of this.. First off, Margo's style is all wrong for Cotto. I really wish Cotto fans would understand this. Margo would KO COtto if Cotto stands and trades. Cotto will also get beat down if he runs (he does not have the stamina to do so for 12 rounds). Stewart will not help either. You cats act like plaster just did the whole job for Margo. I guess Cotto being hit more in that fight than he had in any other fight had nothing to do with it, right? Now lets talk about the damge to Cotto's face. The uppercut is one of the most damaging punches in boxing. Do to the fact that most never see it coming, and the angle that it is delivered. Cotto got hit with like 78 uppercuts...Like 12 were in the second round...You know, the round were Cotto's nose got broke, and face started swelling. Oh wait!! It takes 7 or 8 rounds for the plaster to set!..... Cotto only suffered a cut in the later part of the fight. Funny how folks still to this day can't admit this. Bottom line- For anyone that looks at that fight with an unbiased eye, will see how Margo destoryed Cotto. Head and body. Heart and mental. Plaster did not play the factor that many will try and make you believe. Still there is no proof. Just an excuse for Cotto fans, and Margo haters. Margo will crush Cotto again if they fight. Then what? yea but cotto was owning him 1st 6 rounds maybe the plaster took its affect but dont know if he cheated cant prove it but my opinion is margo cheated and the fact i feell the way is well margo's fault Margo won round 2, and split one of the other rounds...Can't recall it at the moment.

If Cotto and his fans feel like he was cheated, then Cotto needs to be willing to get back into the ring and fight him again to end the speculation.

If he was worth a damn he would've already been brought up on assault charges Luis Resto and Panama Jack style. It's sad, but I've seen the photos of Margaritos handwraps at the Cotto fight and you can undeniably see the pink plaster material on his handwraps. Appalling, that people get behind this guy. I would rather someone do steroids for ten years than use plaster on their handwraps. No problem, I agree with alot of things that you said, but sadly most people that won't listen are either Ricans or like you said Marg haters...not much you can do to change their opinion, another thing I found interesting, I'm sure you caught the Cotto vs Pac did you notice Cotto's face was just as ****ed if not even more in that fight than in the Tony fight? There was no need to bring that up. I'm sure all the people that complained about Cotto's face after the Margo fight, saw that Manny could do the same thing. Like I have told folks many times before, they acted as if Cotto was sort of iron faced dude or some thing. Clottey busted him up. Mosley busted him up. Margo busted him up. Pac busted him up. Urkell (or whatever his name is) busted him up. Zab almost ripped his bottom lip from his face.... The man does not take punishment well at all.

There is absolutely not the slightest amount to evidence to prove Margarito did or did not have his hands illegally wrapped that night. We'll never know unless he comes out and admits it. Threads like this are a waste of time.

Thanks for the mature response brotha. I have never got bent out of shape for someone thinking Margo cheated. The only thing that gets to me, is when folks act like plaster was all that was needed. It wasn't. Tony did alot of great things in that fight to break Cotto. I happen to feel he didn't cheat, but that is just my opionin. Proof can change that. Till then- I think people should focus on the punishment Cotto took from rounds 1-7 (since it takes 7 rounds for the plaster to set). Cotto was a deadman walking by round 8. From uppercuts and body shots, not plaster. P.S. I already know someone will come in and say, "but every shot had the force of a brick or concrete"......Whatever.
