tarver lost the first fight
and got a lucky punch in the second
and in the third, jones would've beat him, had glenn not completely demolished his will, tarver even got hurt twice in the 3rd
johnson straight up beat a past prime(not shot, not prime, but still very good, and fast) roy jones, jones even had a will to start flurrying and somewhat go to war against johnson, but that didnt stop the road warrior

yeah johnson was the wrong opponent at the wrong time for jones, they looked at his record and thought that he would be a good comeback fight, WRONG, johnson almost took his head off...... certainly stopped brain activity.
and yes, tarvers punch was a lucky punch, just like he did against harding in their second fight, both times throwing a big left with the eyes closed, and when he opened his eyes, his fighter was hurt or out.
now i say it was a lucky punch because when tarver landed against jones in their second fight, both threw at the same time, and tarver while punching with jones had his eyes shut tight, more than a coming in for the attack with the eyes squinted. aka, lucky punch. regardless it made it's point, ko.
johnson just put the spurs to jones and got the ko, in normal johnson fashion.

Proper thread. I think nothing of Tarver, though credit must be given for his win on Jones. But 1 punch KO's happen in boxing. I don't think that win proved he was the better man. Johnson is different. He thoroughly thrashed Roy and showed he was superior that night, not just lucky.
if it wasn't a lucky punch why didn't he do it in the first? or the third fight?
instead he got beat by a past-prime weight drained roy jones in the first
and staggered by a past-prime roy jones with no killer instinct in the third
It's called a combination of natural forces (force, speed, etc.).
If Norton had the power to break Ali's jaw, why didn't he break it in the 2nd and 3rd fights?
If Rafael Marquez broke Israel Vazquez' nose in the first fight, why couldn't he break it in the 2nd and 3rd?
It happens by chance, but the person the chance happens to, has to have the skill and talent to pull it off. Joe blow wouldn't knock Roy out on his worse day.
Those are dumb questions. Tarver was a world class amateur and he had good skills and a style to beat Roy at that point. He lumped Roy up in the first fight, destroyed him in the second fight, and beat him in the third.
Btw the only fight Roy's ever shown a real killer instinct was the 2nd Griffin fight.
Any word when Glen Johnson will return? He looked stellar against Yusaf Mack earlier this year and it would be a shame for him to sit out for a prolonged period of time. If Cloud is ducking him then he should be allowed to fight someone else without his mandatory status being jeopardized...
Yeah, but Glen is really the only one to totally dominate him. Roy landed some hard shots to his body and he didn't budge, he felt them though.
Actually, why do you clowns call it a lucky punch?
Tarver lumped Roy up in the first fight and caught him clean in the second. There's not a lot of luck involved in boxing and that punch wasn't one of em.

Roys legs slowing had him fukked there. He couldn't dance away as he used to.
