Ali was only the shit because of the competition he faced. They were the best in history and Ali beat them all. How would we be able to call this guy the best HW ever if he has to prove his skills against the bag of shit heavies we got right now. No one would care about Ali talking shit about the Klits or Haye. Toney does it all the time and its not like he was that out of it when he began his insults.
I would argue that Ali was more popular than those guys because in those days most of his fights were shown all across the world, on free to air television.
Yes, no doubt. Ali was a great athlete-there are plenty of them, but he was also a great personality. Most sports folk are boring. He sang, wrote poetry, stood my his beliefs, made people laugh and cry and helped a race stand up in tough political times.
No, nowadays Ali would just be a superior HW version of Floyd. Hated by all BUT respected by all too.
Ali wouldn't have a cause to defend, nowadays. Back in the days he was defending black people, protested against Vietnam war, poverty and representing his muslim faith.
Nowadays people don't have enough balls to support causes like that, we're just brainwashed zombies. Listen to the singers. Back in the days, u had Jimi Hendrix, Bob Dylan, the beatles. Now we have Lady GaGa,..
America is not the world....he would be huge in the states but not as big and marketable as Tiger Woods around the world.....Woods has influence all over the world and there is a reason that a GOLFER makes WAY more money then any other athelte.
Plus Ali was mostly recognized after he retired instead of during his carreer like todays athletes
You've got to be kidding. Tiger Woods gets paid a lot of money from endorsements, not golf. What other golfers are making more money than any other athletes? And Ali was recognized all over the world during his career, not just after. When he fought Leon Spinks in the rematch take a look at the celebrities in his dressing room to support him. From John Travolta to Johnny Cash. Elvis Pressley and even the Kennedy's were big Ali fans. Elvis Pressley had a 15,000 custom made rhine stone robe sent to Ali as a gift. Ali was invited to Russia as Russian president Brezhnev's guest. During his career. Nobody athlete today generates the Universal and international attention Ali did. You don't know what you're talking about.
messi...greatest footballer, yes.... greatest athlete, no
Football=most popular sport with the largest talent pool in the world, and Messi is the best at it.
Who is the greatest athlete according to you?
Rather than just accusing that person of having a limited sports knowledge, you should offer up examples that disproves his previous statement.
Jack Nicklaus, look him up.
Roger Federer, look him up.
Pele, look him up.
I disagree Ali was covered by the media rather well and back then boxing was more main stream unlike today...Lefty
You have got to be kidding me right? Was there internet, cell phones, texts, youtube, twitter, or the 10,000 channels covering 24 hour sports like there is now?
Dude, it's not even close....
Rather than just accusing that person of having a limited sports knowledge, you should offer up examples that disproves his previous statement.
Thank you....at least i provide evidence while being critisized
Your knowledge about sports must be very limited if you think that :lol1:
Well tell me a guy when you compare his amount of Championships to the second best then thier ratio are 16 to 3....He won 16 of 35 possible championchips and even missed a few due to injures or personal problems.....NO other athlete has dominated his sport like Tiger....note that golfer compete against hundreds of other golfers while most sport compete against against only a few
No its not always but in Tigers case the means justify the ends....Tiger dominates like no other person has ever in any sport, sp money in this case does point to being the best
Roger Federer and Usain Bolt are the most dominant sportsmen ever, It isn't even close

If Ali was at his prime today, he would be bigger than Tiger, Kobe, or Lebron | BoxingScene Community
