Bernard Hopkins the so called "legend", Freddy Roach one of the most accomplished trainers in the world and Nazim Richardson one of the most respected trainers in the world.... How on earth did this supposed team of the best lose to a welsh bloke and his dad?
I know this is really old news but i thought id just remind everyone just what calzaghe was up against in 3 masterminds of the ring, quite impressive win really.
so calzaghe does the opposite and throws a lot of punches that miss
see this is the root of your problem right here...calzaghe landed plenty of solid shots on nard...head and body...they may not have been the biggest of power punches, but he landed some solid shots all fight long...your hate for calzaghe's style won't allow you to come to grips with this...
ok bernard won in slow motion...which is the only way he can win against solid opposition these days....lol
no he won in all forms of motion but people kept saying calzaghe outlanded him or landed 200 punches and its just not true. i point out to them they can watch it in slow motion and they refuse. guess they don't care about the truth after all and will defend something that is wrong till they are blue in the face.
look man i saw the fight...in the postfight interview your boy even admitted that calzaghe threw far more punches, so his 15 pitty pit lands are going to overwhelm his one accurate shot over the course of 12 rounds...because it isn't a ko shot...you're so in awe of his overdefensive style that it blinds you from the truth...and the truth is he doesn't throw any punches because he doesn't want to get hit solid on the chin...
you hopkins lovers want to give nard decisions because he lands 1 accurate shot per round, doesn't throw nothing for the first six or 7 rounds, and does too little too late in the championship rounds...
so calzaghe does the opposite and throws a lot of punches that miss and gets hit solid on the chin and you think he wins? how does that make any sense? this is boxing hit and not be hit remember. not charge!
yep thats right. they rewarded inaccuracy. i don't know how anyone can say calzaghe won if they used the actual rules of judging.
clean punching-all bernard calzaghe only a couple clean punches in the fight while hopkins outlanded him in real punches remember hitting air, shoulders, back, behind the head do not count as scoring blows. watch in slo mo whenever calzaghe throws for evidence of his impotence.
defense-all bernard he slipped nearly everything while calzaghe was caught flush time and time again
effective agression-bernard again. he picked his spots well and didn't waste any punches. effective when he was agressive. not agressive all the time but completely ineffective. calzaghe's agression was ineffective as he wasn't able to land anything or get hopkins out of his gameplan.
ring generalship-toss up i guess. you could say bernard countered then moved or you could say calzaghe made him back up and be defensive.
so calzaghe won 1 of the scoring criteria at best and he lost the most important criteria clean punching by a landslide. how did he win? yea hopkins fought a stinky fight but he won the boxing match. they punished his crappy style and rewarded a guy for trying but utterly failing. in boxing all you have to do is be better than your opponent and he was. but yea he fought like dirrell sr. so they robbed him.
ok bernard won in slow motion...which is the only way he can win against solid opposition these days....lol
I dont care what anybody says about Calzaghes strange looking punches he is heavy handed and if people think it looks amatuer who cares? its not all about punching... at the end of the day Manny Steward gives Calzaghe praise in all fights he commentated on for his skills and I think one of the all time great trainers knows what to look for in a skillful champ.
and pac hit a milestone against clottey.. prove my point why don't you.
Pavlik was tailor made man.. bhop was able to do more than usual because his opponent did NOTHING.
I'm not saying calzaghe is bad, at all. I'm just saying I'm not impressed with that W mainly because it wasn't clear cut. It was the judges giving rounds saying " well.. at least he TRIED to make contact " lol.

you count missed punches as landed punches? oh compubox said he landed it must be true?

hey thats the way YOU see it....in reality he only landed 1 punch per round, while calzaghe threw far more and landed waaaay more....the judges saw it that way...even unbiased nard fans saw it the same way...just give calzaghe the credit he deserves...hopkins lost
no that's the way it was. he didn't he just didn't. go back and watch it in slow mo if you want to find out the truth but you don't appear to want to know the truth. its a fact. you can keep saying compbox says so and so but you are just flat out wrong.
i see you're from philly, so you count fouls as legal punches...
you count missed punches as landed punches? oh compubox said he landed it must be true?
So this is why he threw almost a record high amount of punches in over 5 years? because Pavlik is so bad, had nothing to do with Joe having a unique frustrating style and him being a very good fighter himself?
What then if Pavlik goes on to due great things?
You can't take credit away from fighters and dismiss wins due to "style mismatches" that is an excuse.
If nothing shady happens the better man just won that night
Those nights, Joe> B-hop Hop> Pavlik and SSM > Marg
and pac hit a milestone against clottey.. prove my point why don't you.

232 / 707... 33% accuracy... not bad really...
ok well we both know those numbers are a complete joke so don't even try that since i've gone back and counted how many actual punches he landed and it's not even close. if you want to keep believing falsehoods and ignoring reality be my guest.
cept put him down, outbox him, land all the clean punches and barely get hit in return while calzaghe threw a bunch of crappy windmill punches that didn't land and hoped it fooled the judges. who did nothing again?

haters won't admit it but calzaghe is a greater fighter than most folks give him credit for. I mean I'd favor him over any of the super six right now. he's awkward, clever, fast, throws tons of punches, superb stamina, etc. Just one of those guys who finds a way to win.

lol...if hopkins came to fight, and not hold, headbutt, hit on the break, and lowblow, and just threw punches, calzaghe would have outpointed him even more clearly and cleanly...
lets be real here..HOPKINS made that fight ugly, not calzaghe...
above that, who expected calzaghe to move up 1 division, and land power punches as if he was trinidad or shane mosley?..use any excuse you choose, but hopkins simply could not do nothing with calzaghe...

did we watch the same fight?
polls don't cover enough. Boxingscene is really a community. We all seem to agree to disagree or agree entirely at times.
If anything, Bhop lost the fight, Calzaghe didn't win it.
He was slapping the air with some of the ugliest stuff i'd ever seen. it was a pretty ugly performance. Sure, he got the W, but be real, it didn't look like a win by any means. It's hardly something for his fans to brag about.. not like he beat anyone up.

then you should know how much Joe actually acheived in that fight.
running into counters and not being able to touch his opponent? what a grand achievement indeed.
