I have noticed lately that people seem to be having very differant opinions on fights and one of these reasons i beleive is due to the commentary.
David Haye v John Ruiz... I watched this fight with German commentary so i couldnt understand what they said so I got an unbias opinion and wasnt "brainwashed" into thinking i was watching something else. The fight sucked guys, Ruiz sucks he would get killed by any top heavyweight, Haye looked really slow and sluggish and puffed out. It was also boring!!! Haye said look for fireworks and you had to look hard to find any. He employed the same tactics as the Valuev fight.
But if you watched this fight with British commentary I'm sure they were bumming haye to new levels saying how good he looks and how fast he is. I bet they were trying to pretend it was really quite an amazing fight when in reality it was just as crap as any other heavyweight fight. They always try to make the big names sound better to hype up their fights and i think it works to some degree.
When the commentators get pumped and say how good a fighter is it is like subliminal messaging to our brain.
It's the unfortunate predicament of a PPV commentator. They're expected to create the impression that the fight is entertaining because people have invested money to watch the broadcast. No one wants to feel ripped off, that could jeopardize future sales.
I thought the Haye fight was entertaining though, especially the second time around, in an unknown language.
Seen it with both German and British commentary.
Didn't have any variance to my opinion on the fight whatsoever.
Commentary shouldn't affect your opinion on a fight if you have a brain of your own.
He was slow.. he was FAT.. and he was HUFFING AND PUFFING in the FOURTH ROUND.
Me and my buddy were laughing at this while watching a stream WITH british commentators.
and for anyone who says they weren't hyping him up, you're insane. They called hayes stamina "legendary" (and i quote) LEGENDARY, when the guy was gassing in the fourth. Tell me you all didn't notice this?
I saw the exact same thing. Haye looked pretty bad in against a guy who he should have had a field day with.
Commentary doesn't reflect or even affect the judges in any way, shape, or form.
So who cares about the commentary? Only the weak minded let the commentary affect their thoughts on the fight. If you actually watch the fight(any fight not just haye-ruiz), then the commentary shouldn't matter.
Only one time I found the commentary annoying that was the whole "bang bang bang" shit in the clottey-pac fight.
but he didnt look great... he looked so ordinary and beatable, dont you think he looked so much slower than usual?
Maybe its the stream you was watching, watch on TV quality and you might think differently. I thought Haye looked great, fast and slick throwing bombs when he needed too. You cant expect too much blistering speed, he is a heavyweight after all.
i disagree man. i think he looked slow and his timing wasnt there, he even said him self after he felt like he was rushing his shots. anyway the thread isnt really about haye ruiz its about commentators influencing our perception.

He looked good. Rewatch it.

A lot of times, I watch fights with the sound off.
I don't need people telling me what I see with my eyes.
If there is a foul or something I will turn the volume on for a minute to hear about it, but lots of times I just put it on mute.
I do agree, commentators do influence viewers many times.
yh i think from now on i will do as such or again watch in a differant language. Its so easy to be caught up in the hype. take for instance the pacman clottey fight, we all know the fight sucked so why did the commentators try and brainwash people into thinking it was awesome?
They werent sayong how great he is, they said he looked great tonight, they dont tend to bum up to Haye, you shoulda heardd them at the end of the Valuev fight when Haye was celebrating before the result was announced
