First of all, he has said he's not retiring off this fight. Calzaghe on the other hand retired with a lot more to prove. Now if Hopkins doesn't fight Chad Dawson then he'll get ripped from me. But I think if HBO offers a better money amount than before, he'll take the fight. Another reason is because Hopkins did Calzaghe's dirty work and heavy lifting by beating Kelly Pavlik who was hyped up at the time. And a lot of that had to do with Dawson looking like shit against Glen Johnson.
Pavlik against Hopkins and Joe would generate more pages of talk than threads involving Dawson against those guys. I still think Dawson is better than Pavlik. But Pavlik made Hopkins drop down five pounds to fight him. People need to remember that.
I know people will accuse me of using double standards, but Calzaghe gets nothing from me.
By me saying Calzaghe gets nothing from me, it means just that. No credit at all. I won't give Hopkins credit for beating Jones either. But he deserves more of a pass for it is where I'm getting at.
Sounds like double standards.
Well, to be honest with you it aint even the part of where Calzaghe fought Roy Jones. I didn't have a problem with it to be honest, because it was an element missing from Calzaghe's career. Just like the rematch is missing from Bernard Hopkins' career. But the fact that he bowed out on that win is what caused me to lose respect for him. Hopkins on the other hand is gonna fight on. That's the difference.
