Roy is still a really impressive fighter, still smart, fast enough etc Definitely past his best but his attributes and brain are still working well enough.
It is just his chin, it was never a rock solid McCall type chin, but it was pretty reliable. But dropping back down from HW messed around with punch resistance, then the subsequent KO losses made it worse and worse, to the point where his chin is shit.
He would have taken Danny to pieces if his chin was still decent, if you watch the fight, he is moving alright, and tagging Danny with some nice jabs, and looking OK. It is just the chin.
Chris Byrd's dropping down in weight was a bit shocking to watch. Wasn't overly surprised because he looked ill but he went from taking shots from much bigger men to just looking awful against Shawn George.
There is only so much you can take even at a "healthy" weight...your just adding to it with destroying your body with weight loss...specifically muscle loss and to late in your career.
if RJJ knew Green was cheating then why didn't he just fly his ass back to the U.S.????
he wasn't gonna just not fight and go home with no money. He was confident in his skills to beat danny regardless, but he knew he had to watch out for the brick hands. He covered up nice, but he got hit wit a shot in the back of the head. Roy isn't shot, just older, but he fights a bit different cus of it, but he is a still very capable fighter
i dunno bout the wraps thing, but it could be right or wrong, dont know for sure.
but i do know that greens punch was a back of the head "rabbit" shot.
roy got up and had his legs and wits about him,all he did was cover up and protect him self to ride a bit of greens storm to then carry on,but as usual a foreign ref just like brit refs stop fights to early for not enough good reason,i mean roy wasnt wobbled, wasnt being hit cleanly, wasnt dazed,Was covering up.
but i think unless roys chin really is gone, then roy could pull it off again.it dont seem natural or sensible that bhop will go out of his zone and look to KO,surely being uncharacteristic is not safe for bhop,i mean roys slower, but still faster than bhop.
only time will tell spose, love both fighters, both legends, both so skillfull, and against each other thats making a good fight.
if RJJ knew Green was cheating then why didn't he just fly his ass back to the U.S.????
I'm not saying Roy is right but if I had to take a guess based on a fighter's thinking....."MONEY" and it was right before the fight was about to start.
By the way, above your post is Danny's side to it.
Illegal wraps? have i missed something? If so care to elabrate?
After the fight Roy issued a statement apologizing for getting beat and that he very well might retire. A few days later Hopkins said he kind of thought Roy was stopped early and out of nowhere Roy started talking about rabbit punches and illegal wraps. Pretty pathetic.
There were NO illegal wraps.
It's really pathetic for old Roy Jones to make excuses like that! :nonono:
He can't face up to the reality that he's shot.
I think his team brought it up in the locker room before the fight.
But anyway.
Not many fighters can admit they are past it. They go on and on until they are completely forced out.
I remember hearing that in Japan, in Sumo wrestling, that if a Yokozuna (and maybe any wrestler at that...not sure on the rules)...but they can be forced to retire if they lose to much.
Roy was already on the decline even before his move up to HW but he was still ahead of the game where it didn't matter as much. But after he came back down from HW, his body was ruined and so was his career. He should have retired after Ruiz or stayed at HW and fought another big HW with a title...like Lewis...who more than likely would have knocked him out so maybe not the best choice either.
I don't believe you. When your dad takes off his shirt, does he also display a ripped 6-pack???
My dad is ripped not as ripped as Roy of course, but I was comparing facial features.
So who speaks the truth Roy or Green?
If Roy loses to Hopkins like we all believe he will, I guess he is setting himself up for a Green rematch... Boxing is all about money to fighters in higher weight classes.
