I keep hearing that P-Will is too big to be at WW. But, if he can make weight then how is he too big? Because, he is tall? But, we have weight-classes not height-classes. So for anybody who thinks that P-Will is too tall to be at WW then can you answer the following questions for me.
When are you too tall to be in a certain weight-class?
When are you too short to be in a certaing weight-class?
Weight classes are an antiquated relic from boxing's primitive era.
The future is is body type classes.
If you're 5'8 like Cotto you fight at guys that look like you at 5'8.
You wouldn't fight 5'9 guys like Abraham. You would fight Randal Bailley.
Body type classes are the future of the sport.
No mismatches will be possible.
Dude. I'm not joking.
It would be totally scientific, you would have to take bone measurements and body mass etc....
The days of artificially blown up guys fighting bigger guys would be over.
:wtf1:oh dear.... lol
Now you're talking sense!!
Height classes are dumb and weight classes produce too much artificial volatility.
My method would eliminate this by pitting two naturally equal sized guys in the same division.
/thread.
You should make this a topic on Ring of fire

I have no problem with him being 6'3" i just hate how he says everybody is ducking him at 147. Well no shit, he's 6'3", so while he's whining about not getting the big fights at 147, why doesn't he just move up? Hell why not give Martinez a rematch and a full training camp?
Its not a ridiculous argument because of the 24 hr rehydration. If we went back to old school same day weigh in on fight day, then the height classes is a ridiculous argument. Hugo Cezares had no business fighting ivan calderon weighing in as a junior lightweight on fight night. This friday night weigh in is a blatant manipulation, abomination, & mockery of the weight class divisions of boxing.
Yeah, I understand your point. The same could be said for Mosley, Donaire, Hasegawa, etc.
However, I maintain if you can make the weight, you can make the weight. Eventually, the fighter cutting all the weight will come to the point they can no longer do it. Their performance will suffer.
Height classes? Dwight Muhammad Qawi weighing at 187 in a fight with Ricardo "El Finito" Lopez(105lbs) for the 5'5" title!
Yes, but do they have the same bone density and BMI?
Bantam is a fine class.
I don't care what Flicker says though, Hazegawa will not beat Perez.
After Perez handles Mares, Mr. Honda needs to bring Hozumi's ass out to L.A so Yonny could whoop him too.
Whaddya think about that?
I believe Perez's height, skills, and work rate would cause Hasegawa some problems, but Perez has a habit of gravitating towards the ropes and leaning on them. He'll also give up his height from time to time and lean in, and will have a lapse where he drops his hands and backs up, leaving himself open. He needs to tighten up defensively to beat Hasegawa.
I think Hasegawa would win a decision, but I remember that thread and sorry, Yonnhy Perez is tough for anyone at 118. I doubt he gets "Sahapromed" as Flicker likes to say.
Thats exactly right Shadows.
Boxing metrics.
But it obvious my idea is ahead of its time.
Keep your stinkin' weight classes as they are...
:damnit1:
Change what you want, but leave bantamweight alone. :boxing:
Why?
It would be based on scientific accuracy. You can probably get boxing down to 3 classes at most.
Imagine the clarity!!
So....would Buffer and Lennon announce BMI and bone density instead of height and weight? :lol1:

Exactly, the argument is ridiculous.
What is "his size"? Light heavyweight, cruiserweight?
The funny thing is that if he fought people "his own size" he would not be their size, instead he would just be blown up at that weight and placed at a disadvantage.

At least now I know you're joking.
It's a ridiculous argument.
And, what makes it more ridiculous is that they only single out P-Will. They never mention Caballero or Funeka. I never heard any problem with Corrales and Oscar beign at 130.
