According to Listin a Dominican newspaper, Maidana and Joan Guzman will be fighting next, This is what Eric Gomez of GBP said “Eso es lo que viene, no habíamos anunciado nada por las posibilidades de Cayó, ahora que está despejado el camino Guzmán se merece un chance ante Maidana, desde el sábado la gente ha empezado a pedir la pelea”, dijo Eric Gómez, Golden Boy Promotions, a “El Listin”. Translation. This is what it comes, we haven't announced anything because of the possibilities that Cayo had, now that road is clear, Guzman deserves a chance versus Maidana, since saturday people have been asking the fight, said Eric Gomez of GBP. I hope this fight gets made, Maidana will put Guzman the cheater to sleep, to strong, vicious and Powerful for the featherfisted Guzman, and this fight will help him get acostummed to fight with slick fighters (before he faces Bradley or Alexander), Cayo was one of them but he was wild, And with the help of his new trainer Miguel Diaz (H0F 2008), the Killer Maidana will only get better at fighting slick fighters. Guzman hasn't been punched by someone of the Power of El Chino, Chino will be in his face all the fight, it will be like Margarito versus Cotto all over again. Maidana is not like Margarito and Guzman is not like cotto .. guzman have a lot of skills and Maidana is very messy, and can not attack or fight against declining. pineapple many blows, which against Guzman complicate it apart their defense is not good. Guzman would not have many complications

ah, guzman has a little pop to his punches and Lee Beard talked about how he was teaching guzman to throw with more authority and to actually hit with his knuckles. He said guzman kinda slapped with his punches and all through training camp they worked on guzman throwing harder, better formed punches. And I think that showed against Funeka on Saturday, guzman definitely hurt funeka a few times. Yeah, it looked like he tried, but he settled back into his habit. He needs to have an extended stay in the gym if he's gonna revert back to his original punching technique. It's not something you get back in 2-3 month training camps. I won't think twice about putting my money on Guzman, there's almost no way I see him losing. It's gonna be hard for him to redeem himself with the general public, but at least I can get some paper off their hate.

If this match-up was made and Guzman remained focused, I could easily see Guzman outboxing Maidana. I think Funeka is technically superior than Maidana and is probably faster, and Guzman was able to outslick and overall outbox him to get the victory. The only thing I see Maidana has going for him is pressure and power, but I feel a pressure style can easily play into Guzman's hands if he knows what he's doing. No seemingly strain on weight will aid Guzman in taking inevitable punches, and I see Guzman outboxing Maidana.

whoa can't believe how many people are picking maidana to win!...some of you guys are really hypnotized power and size. I would lean towards guzman in this, I think he will have enough rounds in the bank to hang on to a decision. He is gonna be way too fast for maidana in the early part of the fight, and is good defensively, maidana was having enough trouble hitting that cayo, and all he was doing was pretty much moving his upper body. Guzman is a very good defensive fighter and seriously fast counter puncher, if he had more power up at 140 I would back him for a stoppage.

He does still loop his punches a lot, but there were clearly times he threw hard, accurate punches with his knuckles on Funeka. Funeka wasn't a lightweight on fight night though. Guzman 148, Funeka 144. knuckle slaps. funeka made weight. so he was a lightweight. dont act like most fighters dont gain ~10lbs after the weigh-in anyways.

Maidana accepted step aside money for GBP. If he wanted the fight with Khan that badly, he should have enforced his mandatory position. Maidana is as much to blame as Khan for the fight not happening. Stop hating. The guy lives with his mother; you'd accept step-aside money too.

Id rather see Guzman face Oritz. I hope Maidana KOs him, but Guzman has real skills and Maidana is crude. Ortiz is fighting Campbell which should be a good fight.
