does anybodys opinion change on the juanma gamboa fight after watching this fight? i think that many of you got a little to hyped over that win over mtagwa and forgot about gamboas vulnerability in the ring which in my opinion is still there
Agreed I got Gamboa winning by a ko before the 8th or a desisive win, no doubt we saw Juanma get taken to a bad place by Mtagwa and then Gamboa obviletare Mtagwa in 0.1 seconds only if that goes to Gamboa's head and he fights like he did Barros, not taking the guy serious only then do i predict it could get ugly for him.
Phisically Gamboa blows Juanma out of the water in both Power and deffinetly speed as on the other hand Juanma's got good power and a better strategy in a defensive boxing point of view.
bad example....
Are people forgetting that Mtagwa came in at 122 for a fight at 126?
I still think he loses the. But he lasts a bit longer and maybe takes Gamboa into deep waters like Barrios did.
4 pounds can be the difference between 3 rounds and 12.
no i didn't forget. juanma would stop barrios and he beats gamboa right now.
My stock is mostly in hes Reflexes and Athletisism i seen Juanma's Best nights and its as spectacular as Gamboa in a quick ko kind of perspective but comparing both guys worst night And for Gamboa wasnt Barros i seen him get caught of guard and floored for being stupidly off balance by hard shots and an elbow at one point never once for a second seen him in the shape Juanma was in the Mtagwa fight he ran out of gas and was running on fumes the kids got Heart(which kept him up) but hes going to need more then that to go 12 rounds against Gamboa if Gamboa doesnt take him lightly because for what ive heard him say he kinda is doing so. But honestly i just want to see the fight regardless of the outcome which i am surtain off its going to be a great fight and silence alot of people not all ofcourse someone always has to find something to talk shit about lol
it will be a great fight either way but i think your looking into the mtagwa juanma fight a little too much but your entitled to your opinion and we wont know which one of us is right till after the fight. i heard that arum was thinking about doing this one next year in the new giants stadium so not only will it be a great fight but it will have a crazy atmosphere

so you put a lot of stock into the win over mtagwa and thats one of the main reasons you pick him? i think that juanma could fight barros and brutally ko him in 5 or 6 rounds but that in my opinion doesnt mean that juanma beats gamboa just because of that. i look at what i have seen over the course of the careers from both juanma and gamboa and i think juanma has fought the better opposition overall and i also think that gamboa doesnt have the chin or the discipline defensively to last with a true puncher like juanma. i do agree with you though that gamboa is clearly the better athlete out of the 2 but i dont think he has the harder punch regardless of the outcome of the mtagwa fight

agree to disagree. u asked for my opinion u got it. U can't tell me i'm wrong. But for the sake or arguing. Penalosa was(is) a small guy for 122 and he didn't pose a thread to Juanma at all. So juanma just got comfortable in the ring and thew his combos. After that fight he fought 3 more times. out of those he had a terrible performance vs mtagua where he gassed out. then vs luevano and by the 5th round he was showing problems with his stamina, opening his mouth and sloppy punches. If he can't get the job done in a hurry he gets frustrated.
Juanmas IDOL is Tito Trinidad and he is always on his corner telling him he will ko everybody. That works in a mans head. Trinidad himself had MAD boxing skills and he lost all that wanting to KO everyone in front of him
im not telling you your wrong im just disagreeing with you i welcome all points of view in this thread :boxing:
I've seen Gamboa go into the late rounds with ease. This was obviously an off-night for the guy. Probably didn't sleep right.
I still favor Gamboa in the fight with Lopez.
This was the worst Gamboa we've seen, and he still would've knocked the guy out after the KD, if Barros didn't have a tight, Clottey-like defense (which Lopez doesn't have).
i disagree he threw tons of punches against a game(i know he was smaller) penalosa and didnt seem to gas out in that fight. i think that gamboa showed a little frustration and a lack of stamina today when he couldnt get his man out of there and i dont see getting to the later rounds as a advantage for gamboa over juanma

Until he meets Chris John…
John is underrated as hell. I thought he moved up to 130. What until Gary Russell gets TV time. That boy will be a beast at 126
Juanma fell in love with his power and looks for the ko in a hurry. If he doesn't get it he gets frustrated and gasses out. Gamboa is in his strongest weight and comparing both on their worse night gamboa is better and on their best night gamboa is better. The best thing that Juanma has going for him is his pop but if he can't land he will be in for a long night. at the same time Gamboa has a pretty strong punch as well.
It's like this, in the first three rounds whichever implements the tempo will win it so I see this being a very tactical fight with gamboa going for the UD cause they know he can't allow himself to get hit by Juanma.
It's either Juanma early ko and i mean before 3-4 or a gamboa ud maybe verly late ko. at the moment I favor Gamboa.
