I have no respect for this guy. He's a great talent but not all he could be. In it for the money and seems he'd rather duck someone who might beat to ensure he keeps getting the big pay days.
Here's a quote from a hero of mine who was a football manager.
"It is better to fail aiming high than to succeed aiming low. And we of Spurs have set our sights very high, so high in fact that even failure will have in it an echo of glory."
Floyd not having that mentality will stop him from going down as one of the greatest and to be honest perhaps he does have the talent to have been.
I'm talking about the fact to Floyd "Belts gather dust". Floyd fans don't want to see Floyd earn $50 million. They want to see him fight and beat the best fighters out there.
Perhaps it's an English thing where talking about money is seen as vulgar and there is a different attitude in America towards money.

Required reading for all. Anything he does is a problem....because he has many people who hate him with a passion....no matter what they say before a fight they always find a way to discredit him and rewrite history.......it won't be any diff if he beats SSM and Pac in 2010.......revisionist history will kick in by 2011 and he will be ducking PWill.

The thing is floyds LOW is alot higher then most of your favorite fighters High which might be your biggest hang up with floyd!!!
Belts don't mean anything unless they're held by a quality fighter. And Floyd has made clear a million times he only cares about money. None of this stuff should surprise anybody.
Looks like its PE time,
these cats don't want none!
Hard for Floyd fans to defend him. Floyd wants his fans money rather than to entertain them or prove himself.
He's not saying that he doesn't care about legacy. The fighters he fights will determine his legacy not the belts they hold as shown by people hating on him for fighting THE champ at WW in Baldomir (despite him supposedly ducking Baldomir and Hatton at that time).
So why does he brag about being a 5 division belt holder?

I'm going to believe a no name poster over Arum and Floyd.
I'm not even sure what that means.
yea he ducked a bum who won a vacant wbo belt..to fight the true linear champ lol..only in a idiots mind does that make sense...
Bum, vacant belt, this, that, whatever your feeble mind thinks doesn't matter.
Tony was the longest reigning belt holder in that division who fought the most top 10 contenders during that time. Floyd ducked him in favor of someone who held the,
now get this,
the lineal belt.
So, if belts don't matter to him, or you, or the rest of you merry maids of Floyd,
why go after an even bigger bum, who was more unknown, with more losses?
You're just painting yourself into a corner and you don't even realize it.
"the belts don't matter" - Larry x
"he fought for the the lineal belt, so there" - Larry x
Contradictions just like Floyd.
Also,
Can you shed some light on the belt he won at 140?
That should be interesting.
Floyd chosing money over legacy is something that i hate as a boxing fan but that i could understand as a man.
Good point. As a boxing fan it is hard to respect him as a boxer though easy to admire his talent.
Let's face it, he's gonna be broke within a couple years of hanging them up anyway. The guy is a degenerate gambler and about as savvy with his money as a kid with pocket money. Seriously, why do you think he returned to the sport? The guy squandered tens of millions in less than 2 years.
Boxing fans want to be entertained and see the top fighters battle it out to see who is the greatest. Mayweather is a world class fighter who should fear no one. We aren't talking about some bum who is going into a ring to be knocked out for someone else's warm up.
Mayweather is in a position where he does not need to worry about money. People on this forum need to worry about feeding their kids. The concept of a multi millionaire saying he needs to feed his kids is a joke. He can take the purse from his next fight and put it into an account for his kids and they'd be set for life.
I do believe he cares about his record. I believe he wants to go undefeated and he avoids fights to maintain that record so I don't think he is being completely honest.
He's right. In ten years, who'll be happier, have money and who'll be healthier? Floyd Mayweather or Miguel Cotto? Cotto could still be undefeated and would be a superstar if he'd have fought Baldomir at 147 and defended it against a weaker champ like Hatton.

The belt is the reason why he ducked Margarito,
and they're a big part of him talking about how he conquered s5 divisions on less than 10 years.
If they don't mean anything,
he shouldn't use them as an excuse to fight bums, nor should he bring them up as his achievements.
I'm going to believe a no name poster over Arum and Floyd.
Floyd fought Gatti, the weakest champ at 140, and Zab and Baldy at 147 for belts when there were better champions. Belts gather dust, they're also an excuse for him to cherry pick opponents and palm off fights as bonafide world title clashes
Mayweather just spits the truth and some cats find that hard to accept. Belts in this era of 1000 sanctioning bodies dont mean that much. That's why the Ring Belt has gained credence.
Face the best, beat the best. Belts are just a bonus.
If these belts don't mean much,
why does he brag about winning belts in five divisions in less than 10 years?
margo is a one dimentional cheating piece of shit..stop acting like he was some kind of alltime great boxxer..he's shit and will be remembered thru out history as shit..while floyd will be remembered as an atg....
I don't care what his skill set is,
it doesn't take away from the fact that he was one of the best welterweights of the last decade,
and for that,
Floyd ducked him.
