I never really understood this. Immediately after the Berto/Mosley fight fell through b/c of the hurricane and it became apparent Mosley/Mayweather were going to fight and Clottey/Pacquiao were going to fight some people (including myself) started talking about the natural matchup being Cotto/Berto in June. Then Arum started talking about Yankee Stadium, which it seems like Cotto/Berto would have obviously been a much bigger matchup than Cotto/Foreman to put in Yankee Stadium. At the end of the day we would have had 3 top notch fights and 3 different beltholders who would all have natural matchups with each other.
Seems like the only reason I can think of that a Cotto-Berto fight was never seriously considered for June is that Arum would rather keep the money in-house. But I sure feel like a Cotto-Berto matchup would have been a much better fit for Yankee Stadium and would have been a big PPV had they ever decided to go that way. Basically the winner would be champion-in-waiting for the winner of Pacquiao vs Mosley/Mayweather or first in line if that fight fell through. Even if Pac vs Mosley/Mayweather went down I could see the winner of a Cotto-Berto fight fighting the loser of Mosley-Mayweather and then the winners of the two fights fighting each other.
So why the hell didnt this potential bout get any traction?
You really think that Cotto is going to fight mayweather. Unless floyd loses to shane it will never happen.
Who else could Floyd fight if he does not fight Pacquiao???
Plus Cotto vs Mayweather would do atleast 1.2 mil ppv
3 more fights for Cotto.
Foreman vs Cotto in June
Berto vs Cotto in November
and if he win
Cotto vs Mayweather in March or May

I think at the time they signed Formen, they weren't sure how long Berto was going to be out. Also I think Berto people want him with a Title holder as soon as possible. I think they want him to keep busy until one of the Three(Pac/Mosely/Floyd) become open to fight.
I think the Berto vs Quintana fight in April, will still be a good fight. I would to see him fight Clottey. I don't think Cotto will stay at 154 for long so him vs Berto could still happen.
good point, I think that cotto wanted a longer break from the sport, till the summer. Berto needed just a couple of months to recover.
Berto-Cotto, 147lbs great fight
cotto could fight berto after foreman
